Abstract

This study aims to analyze the socio-economic conditions of cakalang fufu (smoked skipjack tuna) processing communities in Tolondadu II Village, Bolaang Uki District, South Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The study employed a qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and a literature review. The findings reveal that cakalang fufu processing is predominantly carried out as a household-based industry that relies on family labor, social capital, and networks with local fishers as the primary suppliers of raw materials. The sustainability of these enterprises is influenced by fish availability, capital ownership, business experience, and the processors' capacity to adapt to price fluctuations, weather conditions, and limitations in production facilities. Although marketing activities remain largely dependent on traditional markets, the industry continues to make a significant contribution to household income and the local coastal economy. The study concludes that strengthening producers' institutional capacity, improving access to financial capital, adopting more efficient processing and marketing technologies, and fostering collaboration among processors are essential strategies for enhancing the competitiveness and long-term sustainability of community-based cakalang fufu processing enterprises.
