Pencak silat learning in junior high schools still tends to use conventional teacher-centered approaches, resulting in limited cognitive engagement of students in understanding movement concepts, rules, and strategies, while research on Discovery Learning implementation in pencak silat at the junior high school level remains relatively scarce. This study aims to determine the effect of Discovery Learning model on students' cognitive abilities in pencak silat learning for eighth grade at SMP Negeri 5 Karawang. This research employs a quantitative approach with quasi-experimental method and Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design, involving 82 students consisting of experimental group (n=41) and control group (n=41), using a 30-item multiple-choice test instrument referring to Revised Bloom's Taxonomy (C1-C6), with data analysis including Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's Test for homogeneity, Paired Sample t-Test, Independent Sample t-Test, and N-Gain. The results show that the experimental group's posttest mean score (21.24) is higher than the control group (18.15), with significance values < 0.001 for both t-tests, while the N-Gain of experimental group (0.361) falls into moderate category and control group (0.274) into low category. This study concludes that Discovery Learning model has a significant effect on students' cognitive abilities in pencak silat learning with better improvement compared to conventional model.
