<![CDATA[This pre-experimental study aimed to examine the use of comic books in teaching reading comprehension at SMPN 26 Pontianak, using one group-group pre-test and post-test. The research participants were eight-grade students at SMPN 26 Pontianak and the sample was selected using cluster random sampling which consisted of 33 students. The data was collected using tests given to students before and after the treatment. The result showed a difference of the average score of students from 74.06 on the pre-test to 79.21 on the post-test. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test showed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test (T= 24 < t-critical = 46). The effect size value was 0.65, which indicates a large effect. This finding concludes that the use of the comic books in teaching reading comprehension has a significant effect based on the performance of the students’ reading comprehension score, therefore comic books can be used as an alternative medium for teaching reading, especially for teaching reading comprehension in junior high school.]]>
