Abstract

Abstract This research addresses the low reading comprehension of explanatory text material observed among students in Indonesian instruction. The study investigates the impact of the concept map-assisted Scramble learning model on the reading comprehension of grade V students at SD Negeri 7 Simpangkatis. An experimental method was employed, utilizing a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control-group design. The sample comprised 64 grade V students from SD Negeri 7 Simpangkatis, selected through purposive sampling, with 32 students in each group (experimental and control). Data were choosed employing a test containing of 10 essay questions assessing reading comprehension of explanatory texts. Data analysis included a normality test (Kolmogorov-Smirnov), a homogeneity test (Levene Statistic), and a hypothesis test (Independent Samples Test), conducted using SPSS version 26.0. The normality test results indicated that pretest and posttest data in both experimental and control groups were distributed normally, with p-values surpassing 0.05. The homogeneity test revealed pretest and posttest significance values of 0.716 and 0.401, respectively, both of which were greater than 0.05, confirming data homogeneity. The Independent Samples Test generated a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is < 0.05. These findings support the acceptance of Ha and rejection of Ho, demonstrating that the concept map-assisted Scramble learning model significantly influences reading comprehension of explanatory texts among grade V students at SD Negeri 7 Simpangkatis
