Abstract

This study was motivated by the students' persistently low skills in developing ideas, systematically structuring texts, and using effective language when writing explanatory texts. The study aimed to analyze the explanatory text writing skills of Grade XI students at SMK Pasundan 1 Serang City before and after the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning model, as well as to analyze the model's impact on these skills. A true experimental design specifically a pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The research sample consisted of 34 students from the Office Administration 2 class (control group) and 34 students from the Accounting 1 class (experimental group). Inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Prior to hypothesis testing, prerequisite analysis tests-namely normality and homogeneity tests were conducted. The results indicated that while the explanatory text writing skills of students in the control group (taught using the conventional lecture method) improved, they remained in the "poor" category. In contrast, students in the experimental group demonstrated greater improvement in their writing skills following the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) model. The results of the mean difference test regarding explanatory text writing skills indicate that the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning model had a significant effect on the writing skills of Grade XI students at SMK Pasundan 1 Serang City.
