<![CDATA[ This study aimed to evaluate the level of adherence to antihypertensive medication use among geriatric patients at the Pharmacy of Daya Regional General Hospital, Makassar City, based on patient characteristics. Hypertension is a chronic disease requiring long-term therapy, in which treatment success is strongly influenced by patients’ adherence to medication use. This study employed a non-experimental design with a descriptive cross-sectional approach. A total of 110 patients were selected using consecutive sampling. Data were collected using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) questionnaire and patient characteristic data. The results showed that the majority of patients were female (64.54%), aged 60–64 years (40.9%), had primary-level education (33.63%), were unemployed (52.72%), and had been diagnosed with hypertension for more than 5 years (50.9%). Adherence to antihypertensive medication was predominantly categorized as low (51.81%) and moderate (28.18%), while high adherence accounted for 20%. Adherence tended to be higher among female patients and those who had suffered from hypertension for more than 5 years, while it was lower among patients aged ≥75 years, those with lower educational levels, and those who were still employed. The study concludes that adherence to antihypertensive medication among geriatric patients at the Pharmacy of Daya Regional General Hospital, Makassar City, remains suboptimal. Therefore, the role of pharmaceutical personnel needs to be strengthened through continuous education, counseling, and therapy monitoring.]]>
