Based on initial observations, community health volunteers (posyandu cadres) in Bluru Kidul Village, Sidoarjo, demonstrated limited understanding of early detection of children’s socio-emotional development, indicating the need for a structured training intervention. This community service program aimed to enhance cadre capacity through participatory training covering child growth and development concepts, the use of the KPSP screening instrument, and socio-emotional stimulation practices for toddlers. The program was implemented in three stages: preparation, a one-day participatory training program using interactive lectures, group discussions, simulations, and demonstrations, and post-training mentoring through a WhatsApp-based platform and field visits. Evaluation results indicated an improvement in cadres’ knowledge based on pre-test and post-test comparisons, as well as enhanced skills in administering the KPSP and conducting developmental stimulation practices. This program was concluded to be effective in improving cadre competence and should be supported by sustainable mentoring to ensure optimal and holistic child development services at posyandu and to facilitate replication in similar community settings.
