Abstract

Trichoderma sp. biofertilizer is an environmentally friendly alternative, but its spore density requires optimization. Horse manure compost can serve as a fermentation medium that influences spore production. This study aimed to analyze the effect of different Trichoderma sp. doses on spore density in biofertilizer produced using horse manure compost. The research was conducted at the Plant Food Crops and Horticulture Protection Unit (UPT PTPH) Mojokerto, involving 21 days of fermentation followed by seven days of spore density evaluation. The medium consisted of horse manure compost, rice husk, and soil at a ratio of 1:1:1, inoculated with Trichoderma sp. at doses of 2%, 4%, and 6%. Spore density was determined using an improved Neubauer hemocytometer under 400× magnification according to SNI 8027.3:2014. All treatments produced densities above the Indonesian National Standard minimum requirement of ≥1 × 10⁶ CFU/mL. The highest mean density occurred at 2% (1.13 × 10⁷ CFU/mL), followed by 6% and 4% (both 1.07 × 10⁷ CFU/mL). Thus, a 2% dose is recommended as the optimum concentration under these experimental conditions for producing biofertilizer with the highest spore density.
