Abstract

COVID-19 can affect leukocyte levels, which are immune cells. In general, COVID-19 patients will exhibit leukopenia. However, in some cases, COVID-19 patients show a picture of leukocytosis. In other publications, leukocyte levels are still rarely analyzed as a predictor of the severity of COVID-19 infection. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in mean leukocyte levels in COVID-19 patients at Sanjiwani Gianyar Hospital. The research method was an observational analysis using a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 110 COVID-19 patients treated at Sanjiwani Hospital, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and were selected using a consecutive sampling technique. The research data came from secondary data, namely, medical records. The data analysis technique used was the Mann-Whitney test to determine differences in median leukocyte levels between COVID-19 patients with moderate and severe/critical disease. Based on the results of the Mann-Whitney test, a p-value of 0.020 is observed, indicating a significant difference in median leukocyte levels between COVID-19 patients with moderate and severe/critical disease at Sanjiwani Gianyar Regional General Hospital.
