<![CDATA[This study examines how interpersonal communication patterns among couples in long-distance intercity relationships play a role in managing uncertainty and maintaining relationship quality. The phenomenon of long-distance relationships has increasingly emerged, particularly among young adults, due to high mobility and limited opportunities for face-to-face meetings, making digital communication the primary medium of interaction. This study aims to analyze the forms of uncertainty and the communication strategies used by couples to reduce uncertainty based on Uncertainty Reduction Theory, which includes behavioral uncertainty, cognitive uncertainty, and relational uncertainty. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving couples aged 19–25 years in Bali Province who were engaged in intercity long-distance relationships. Data analysis was conducted interactively following the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that the three forms of uncertainty emerged simultaneously and were interconnected, influenced by communication intensity, openness, and consistency of interaction. Couples utilized various digital media platforms to maintain adaptive and open communication. These communication patterns contributed to reducing uncertainty, building trust, and strengthening commitment despite the limitations of physical meetings and geographical distance. The study also highlights the importance of interpersonal communication as a primary mechanism for creating emotional security and maintaining the stability of intercity long-distance relationships. These findings have implications for the development of effective communication strategies to support the sustainability of intercity long-distance relationships in the digital era.]]>
