This study compares the engine performance and exhaust emissions of the Honda Vario 150 using four air filters: paper (OEM), foam, hybrid, and stainless steel. The testing used a quantitative experimental approach with a chassis dynamometer and an exhaust gas analyzer. The results showed that the stainless steel filter produced the highest peak power but significantly reduced engine torque due to a disrupted scavenging effect. Furthermore, the stainless steel filter generated the highest levels of emission pollutants (CO and HC) as it triggered an overly lean air-fuel ratio at high RPMs. Conversely, the paper filter (OEM) proved to be the most superior in maintaining maximum torque. In conclusion, the paper filter (OEM) is the best choice for daily commuting as it provides an optimal balance between torque, combustion efficiency, and clean emissions. A stainless steel filter is effective only for maximum-speed use and requires injection-system recalibration.
