Abstract

This study aimed to analyze how Muslim parents mediate digital technology use among young children and how Islamic educational values are internalized through these digital parenting practices in Mataram City. This descriptive qualitative study involved six  parents of children aged 3–7 in Mataram who actively mediated their children’s digital device use. Data were collected through interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s procedures of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings showed that parental mediation was implemented through restriction, active mediation, and co-use. Through these practices, the internalization of Islamic values occurred through four interrelated processes: value introduction through content curation and rules, meaning-making through dialogue and guidance, value habituation through parental role modelling and relational reinforcement, and value reaffirmation through correction, protection, and reflection. This study contributes to parental mediation theory by extending it from media-use regulation to Islamic value mediation and supports value-based digital parenting guidance in early childhood education.
