Urban areas have the function as educational centers. Makassar City is one of the cities with the largest number of campuses in Indonesia. Educational activities directly contribute to the increase in emissions from the mobility of students, lecturers and staff. emissions are one of the causes of global warming. In order to reduce the rate of emissions produced, green open spaces are needed. Therefore, this study aims to identify the ability of plants to absorb carbon dioxide emissions in the campus area. The data analysis used is to compare the amount of carbon dioxide emission produced with the absorption capacity of vegetation. The results showed that the ability of the existing Green Open Space at campus to absorb CO2produced from all types of vehicles both two-wheeled vehicles (motorcycles) and four-wheeled vehicles (cars) in all access zones, can be absorbed entirely by vegetation where the total amount of CO2 produced is 47,822.4 g/hour while plant’s ability in absorbing the amount of CO2 is 652,855.1 g/hour and there are still more 605,032.7 g/hour CO2 that can be absorbed. Furthermore, the next will be necessary to predict the number of emissions produced.
