<![CDATA[This study aims to examine in depth the symbolic, social, and cultural meanings of the traditional dish Hamis Batar in the context of the corn harvest season carried out by the community of Laran Hamlet, Wehali Village, Malaka Tengah Subdistrict, Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Hamis Batar, a simple dish made from corn and legumes, serves not only as a staple food but also carries profound cultural values, especially in the traditional thanksgiving rituals of the corn harvest. For generations, the people of Laran Hamlet have regarded Hamis Batar as a symbol of gratitude to God, the ancestors, and nature for the blessings of an abundant harvest. During harvest ceremonies, Hamis Batar is presented as part of traditional rituals, reflecting reverence for the land and ancestral heritage. The dish also functions as a medium of social cohesion, strengthening community bonds and demonstrating how local traditions are preserved through culinary practices. Using a qualitative approach with methods such as observation, in– depth interviews, and documentation, this study finds that Hamis Batar reflects more than just local food consumption practices; it represents the cultural identity of the Wehali community. Values such as mutual cooperation, solidarity, and respect for nature are deeply embedded in every aspect of the preparation and sharing of Hamis Batar. Therefore, the preservation of this traditional food is vital not only for local food security but also for maintaining cultural continuity and the wisdom passed down through generations.]]>
