Abstract

The Nagaraja Sea Turtle Conservation Group at Sodong Beach, Cilacap Regency, has long carried out nest patrol, egg evacuation, semi-natural incubation, and hatchling release activities independently, yet all conservation records have been documented manually using notebooks, which are prone to loss, damage, and delayed reporting. This community service program aimed to strengthen the group’s data management capacity through the development of a web-based information system for habitat monitoring and nest data collection, using a participatory approach consisting of needs assessment, system development, training, and mentoring stages. The resulting system, named Rescue Portal, consists of an internal admin dashboard for conservation managers and a public hub page accessible at penyunagaraja.org, providing real-time tide and marine weather monitoring through third-party API integration, a risk-scored analytical report for each nest finding, an activity logbook with a verification workflow, and public branding and news management features. Training and mentoring activities enabled 10 group members to independently operate the system as part of their daily patrol routine. A post-program partner satisfaction survey (n = 10) covering material relevance, schedule adequacy, clarity of delivery, committee service, and program continuity recorded a 90% overall agreement rate (agree/strongly agree), with a mean satisfaction score of 4.44 out of 5. By replacing manual recording with a centralized digital system, the program improved the accuracy and speed of conservation reporting, strengthened the group’s institutional capacity, and is expected to support the long-term sustainability of community-based sea turtle conservation along the southern coast of Central Java.
