Civics Education plays a strategic role in shaping students' character as law-abiding and responsible citizens. Students' legal awareness needs to be instilled early on so that they are able to understand, appreciate, and obey the norms and rules that apply in social, national, and state life. This study aims to determine students' understanding of legal awareness, as well as to identify the obstacles faced and efforts of Civics Education teachers in increasing the legal awareness of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli Utara. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research subjects include the principal, Civics Education teachers, and seventh-grade students. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study concluded that: first, In general, students have a fairly good understanding of the role of Civics Education subjects in instilling legal and civic values, which is reflected in students' understanding of order, rights and obligations, and the consequences of violating rules. Second, the implementation of Civics Education in fostering students' legal awareness has not been optimal due to persistent internal and external obstacles, such as limited understanding of legal concepts, low student motivation, and a lack of variety and a tendency toward theoretical learning methods. Third, efforts to optimize the role of Civics Education are needed through improving the quality of learning, implementing contextual methods, providing teacher role models, and creating a school culture that supports students' legal awareness.
