Advancements in information technology have transformed the ways young people engage with democracy; social media serves as a digital public sphere, offering them opportunities to access political information, express their views, and engage with various social and political issues. This study aims to explore the influence of social media on the civic engagement of the younger generation within Indonesia's democratic process. The methodology employed is a literature review, a research method relying on the analysis of various sources relevant to the study's theme. Data sources include scholarly journals, books, academic writings, and official documents obtained through searches in academic databases and search engines. The findings indicate that social media plays a dual role in the democratic lives of young people: on one hand, it expands forms of civic engagement through online activities; on the other, much of this engagement remains largely symbolic often termed "slacktivism" (superficial or low-effort activism). The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of digital literacy and political education in guiding young people toward more critical, responsible, and meaningful engagement in the democratic process.
