This study aimed to determine the effect of self-confidence on classroom speaking ability among third-grade students at SDN Cilamajang, Kecamatan Mangkubumi, Kota Tasikmalaya, and to assess the strength of the relationship. The study employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. A saturated sampling technique was used, involving 28 third-grade students. Self-confidence data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire, while speaking-skill data were obtained through observation using an assessment rubric as students retold a fable story with the aid of animated media. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with SPSS version 26. The results showed that students' self-confidence fell into the fairly high category (mean = 45.39), while their speaking skills were classified as good (mean = 15.46). The correlation test yielded a coefficient of ρ = 0.176 with a significance value of p = 0.369 (p > 0.05), indicating a positive but very weak relationship between self-confidence and classroom speaking ability that was not statistically significant
