The transportation method is an optimization technique in operations research used to determine the distribution allocation of goods from several sources to several destinations at minimum cost. This study examines the application of the transportation method to the case of broiler chicken meat distribution at PT. Griya Mitra Poultry. The distribution problem involves four production sources (Buyer 1 800 tons, Buyer 2 2,000 tons, Buyer 3 4,000 tons, Buyer 4 1,000 tons) and four distribution destinations (Surabaya 2,500 tons, Gresik 1,500 tons, Sidoarjo 1,800 tons, Jombang 2,000 tons) with total supply = total demand = 7,800 tons (balanced). The study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the North West Corner (NWC), Vogel's Approximation Method (VAM), and Modified Distribution Method (MODI) methods in minimizing distribution costs. The results show that the NWC method produces an initial solution with a total cost of Rp3,105,000 per period. The VAM method produces a better initial solution with a total cost of Rp2,915,000 per period. The MODI method confirms that the VAM solution is optimal because all improvement index values (Iᵢⱼ) ≥ 0. This method is proven to be efficient with a time complexity of O(n3) and is suitable for real applications.
