Abstract

Coffee shops increasingly serve as experiential and social consumption spaces for Generation Z, yet it remains unclear whether physical atmosphere strengthens the effects of lifestyle and customer experience on repeat patronage. This study examines the effects of lifestyle and customer experience on revisit intention and tests coffee-shop atmosphere as a moderating condition among Generation Z consumers in Kendari, Indonesia. Using an explanatory cross-sectional design, data were collected from 155 purposively selected consumers who had visited one of three selected coffee shops within the previous three months and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) in SmartPLS 4. The model explained 63.2% of the variance in revisit intention. Customer experience showed a positive and significant association with revisit intention (β = .528, p = .001), whereas lifestyle was not significant (β = .023, p = .818). Atmosphere did not moderate either the lifestyle-revisit relationship (β = .003, p = .976) or the customer experience-revisit relationship (β = -.023, p = .779). The findings challenge the assumption that physical atmosphere necessarily amplifies consumer-level drivers of return behavior and suggest that realized customer experience is more consequential for Generation Z revisit intention in this context.
