Virus material is identified as one of the most difficult topics in high school biology due to its abstract and microscopic nature, compounded by limited laboratory facilities. This study aims to analyze the needs for developing an Augmented Reality (AR) learning medium based on barcode technology for the virus topic at the senior high school level. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through field observations, teacher interviews, student questionnaires, and document analysis conducted at SMA Negeri 14 Gowa. Results indicate that 48.4% of students were rarely active in class, teachers reported the absence of specific visual media for the virus topic, and 92.3% of teachers recognized the necessity of interactive digital media. These findings confirm the urgent need to develop barcode-based AR learning media that can visualize three-dimensional viral structures interactively, operate offline to overcome internet limitations, and be integrated with gamification elements to increase student motivation.
