ABSTRACT Critical Race Theory (CRT) is an important school of thought in legal philosophy that critiques the assumption of liberal legal neutrality. This article systematically examines CRT using normative legal research methods with a philosophical and conceptual approach. The philosophical approach is used to explore the ontological, epistemological, and axiological foundations of CRT, while the conceptual approach is used to analyze its key concepts. The analysis focuses on the genealogy of CRT, its three key concepts (interest convergence, intersectionality, counter-storytelling), and its position within the landscape of legal philosophy. The research shows that CRT emerged from a disappointment with legal liberalism and offers an alternative epistemology based on the experiences of marginalized groups. These three key concepts serve as tools for dissecting the assumption of liberal legal neutrality. Within the landscape of legal philosophy, CRT is situated within the currents of postmodernism and critical theory. Criticisms from the liberal, Marxist, and internal critique traditions are presented in a balanced manner. This article concludes that CRT is relevant for analyzing structural discrimination against minority groups in Indonesia.
