This study examines whether employee engagement mediates the training–performance relationship among 170 active administrative staff at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. PLS-SEM with a two-stage higher-order construct approach and 5,000 bootstrap subsamples showed positive associations between training and engagement (β = .295), training and performance (β = .343), and engagement and performance (β = .288). The indirect association was significant (β = .085; p = .005), indicating complementary mediation, while the direct path remained stronger. The model explained 8.7% of engagement and 25.9% of performance variance. Cross-sectional self-report data limit causal interpretation.
