This study examines the role of English language skills in Tour Leading within the hospitality sector by comparing students’ academic achievement in English for Tour Leader with professional competency assessment at LSP-P1 Politeknik Negeri Madiun. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was used. Quantitative data were obtained from 50 Diploma III English students through academic records and Tour Leader certification results, while qualitative data were generated through a diagnostic performance test, focus group discussion, and in-depth interviews with two lecturers and two assessors. The academic mean was 79.42, with 84% of students obtaining A or B grades, whereas the certification pass rate was 72%. Diagnostic results showed strong performance in Greeting and Opening (85.5%) and Closing (81.5%), but lower performance in Tour Commentary and Cultural Storytelling (59.5%) and Handling Complaints and Emergency Situations (48.5%). The findings indicate linguistic-pragmatic, psychological, and curriculum-alignment gaps. A closed-loop improvement model integrating SKKNI into the RPS, an English Clinic, and institutional assessment synchronization is proposed.
