Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays an important role in developing students' religious understanding, character, knowledge, and skills in elementary education. However, PAI learning that remains predominantly monodisciplinary and text-oriented may limit students' ability to connect Islamic teachings with the realities of contemporary life. This study aims to examine the relevance of an interdisciplinary approach in Islamic Religious Education learning at the elementary school level. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using library research. Data were obtained from relevant academic literature discussing interdisciplinary approaches, Islamic Religious Education, integrated learning, and elementary education, and were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The findings show that an interdisciplinary approach provides a framework for connecting Islamic knowledge with other fields, including science, social studies, culture, technology, and environmental issues. The approach can help overcome the dichotomy between religious and general knowledge, contextualize Islamic teachings, and create more active, meaningful, and holistic learning experiences. At the elementary level, interdisciplinary PAI can be implemented through integrated thematic learning by connecting PAI competencies with other subjects through relevant themes. This approach is supported by the integration principles reflected in the 2013 Curriculum and remains relevant within the Merdeka Curriculum, which provides greater flexibility for teachers to select and combine learning approaches according to students' characteristics and learning needs. The study concludes that interdisciplinary PAI learning can strengthen the relevance of Islamic education while maintaining its religious foundation and supporting students' cognitive, affective, and practical development.
