Purpose - This research evaluates vocabulary learning under Quizlet-supported Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) and tests whether recorded practice intensity is associated with vocabulary acquisition, contextual usage, and delayed retention among Indonesian junior high school EFL learners. Design/methodology/approach - Two existing classes participated in a four-week quasi-experiment. The Quizlet group comprised 31 students and the comparison group 37 students; their pre-test results did not differ significantly (p > 0.05). Frequency and duration of practice were obtained from Quizlet logs. Vocabulary tests, a two-week delayed test, the usage records, and a motivation questionnaire supplied the data for normalized-gain calculations, t-tests, and Pearson correlations. Findings - Relative to conventional instruction, the Quizlet condition produced larger immediate gains and better maintenance of vocabulary at delayed testing. Logged practice intensity was positively associated with the vocabulary outcomes. Research implications/limitations - Objective usage records can help teachers monitor app-based vocabulary practice beyond the classroom. Interpretation is constrained by the four-week treatment, the modest sample, one school, and reliance on a single platform. Originality/value - The study combines separate measures of acquisition, productive usage, and delayed retention with behavioral data from Quizlet in one Indonesian junior high school quasi-experiment.
