The challenge in heavy equipment vocational education is the lack of student independence in learning due to a learning process that depends on lecturers and limited independent learning materials. This study aims to create a suitable, practical, and effective independent learning module for the Drive System Maintenance (ISUZU 10 PD1 Drive System) course in order to improve student learning outcomes and independence. This study used the Research and Development (RD) method with an adaptation of the 4D model.Data collection was carried out through validation by experts, questionnaires on practicality, learning outcome tests (pre-test and post-test), and learning independence questionnaires filled out by 30 test students. The results showed that: (1) The learning module (score of 4.43) and tutorial video (score of 4.30) were considered “Highly Valid” by experts, (2) The module was rated“Practical” for use by students with a score of 4.21 (84%). (3) The module was proven to be “Effective” in improving learning outcomes, as seen from the average N-Gain score of 0.58 (Moderate category). (4) The use of the module also succeeded in increasing student learning independence with a score of 4.22 (Very Good category).Based on these results, it is concluded that the self-directed learning module developed is suitable for use as teaching material to enhance understanding and learning independence among vocational students in heavy equipment technology.
