Indonesia faces challenges in the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy, one of which is the utilization of rice husk biomass waste. Magelang Regency produces approximately 33,960 – 39,054 tons of rice husk per year, which has not been optimally utilized. Rice husk can be converted into synthesis gas through gasification, although this process produces tar that can clog equipment, cause corrosion, and reduce system efficiency. This study models the rice husk gasification process using ASPEN Plus software with a kinetic reaction approach at an operating temperature of 900°C, identified as the optimum temperature, and analyzes the effect of equivalence ratio (0.30, 0.35, and 0.40) on tar content and synthesis gas composition. The reactor model was developed through a drying stage using an RStoic block, pyrolysis using RYield and RGibbs blocks, and gasification using RPlug blocks divided into oxidation and reduction zones. The results show that increasing the equivalence ratio from 0.30 to 0.40 effectively reduces tar content from 0.03109 kg/Nm³ to 0.01206 kg/Nm³, while H2 content decreases from 14.01% to 11.66%, CO from 23.54% to 18.70%, and CH4 from 1.04% to 0.86%, whereas CO2 content increases from 5.95% to 8.23%. The condition of equivalence ratio 0.30 produced the best synthesis gas quality, while the lowest tar content was achieved at equivalence ratio 0.40.
