<![CDATA[This study aims to map the language proficiency of students participating in a journalism internship at the Public Relations Office of Jambi University (UNJA) in writing news articles, focusing on three linguistic domains—spelling, morphology, and syntax—as well as identifying the most frequently occurring types of errors. This study employed a qualitative case study design involving eight students of Indonesian Language and Literature Education whose news articles were published on the UNJA Public Relations portal. Data were collected through two methods, namely the analysis of news manuscripts and in-depth interviews, and were subsequently interpreted using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings indicate that the overall language proficiency of the student interns remains at a developing level. An analysis of the news articles written by the eight students identified a total of 445 language errors, consisting of 253 spelling errors, 155 syntactic errors, and 37 morphological errors. The error patterns were systematic and recurring, influenced by informal language interference, intralingual errors, and journalism instruction that had not yet been integrated with the internship program. The most prominent errors occurred in the spelling aspect, including the writing of dates, academic degrees, nonstandard words, capitalization, and punctuation. Based on these findings, this study recommends improving the journalism curriculum and encouraging the consistent use of the online KBBI and EYD V as linguistic references.]]>
