The low reading interest of elementary school students is an educational problem requiring serious attention, particularly for fourth-grade students at the concrete operational development stage. This condition is exacerbated by learning media that is uninteresting, monotonous, and not contextualized to students' lives. This study aims to analyze the need for local wisdom-based learning media to increase the reading interest of fourth-grade students at Bhuana Giri 4 Elementary School. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with 13 fourth-grade students and one class teacher as subjects. Data collection techniques included observation, semi-structured interviews, and the distribution of student reading interest questionnaires. Data were analyzed descriptively to obtain an overview of students' reading interest and the need for appropriate learning media. The results showed that students' reading interest remains relatively low. Most students find reading books containing only long texts boring and prefer to play in their free time. However, students showed high interest in reading materials with illustrations, interactive elements, and those related to local culture, such as folklore and Balinese culture. Teachers also stated that local wisdom-based learning media are essential for increasing student motivation and engagement in reading activities. Recommended media include pop-up books based on local culture, interactive picture books, educational comics featuring regional culture, and big books. Thus, local wisdom-based learning media are considered capable of increasing students' interest in reading while simultaneously instilling character values and preserving regional culture from an early age.
