This study was motivated by the low level of mathematical conceptual understanding among elementary school students. This is due to the fact that the teaching approaches and learning media currently in use do not optimally facilitate student engagement in developing mathematical conceptual understanding. This study aims to determine the effect of and improvements in mathematical concept comprehension. The research method used was a Quasi-Experimental Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The data collection instruments used included pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant effect of implementing the Realistic Mathematics Education approach, supported by Polypad media, on students’ mathematical concept comprehension. The improvement in mathematical conceptual understanding in the experimental group was 0.82 (high criterion), with a contribution of 90.5%, which was significantly better than that of the control group, which used the Concrete Representational Abstract. Thus, the Realistic Mathematics Education approach supported by Polypad media can serve as an alternative solution to improve the quality of mathematics learning in elementary schools.
