Based on data from We Are Social and Hootsuite, social media users in Indonesia will reach around 167 million people by 2024, with an average usage of 3–4 hours per day. This article uses a literature review method to analyze the shift in the function of social media, the transformation of people's behavior, and the positive and negative impacts of dependence on these digital platforms. The results of the study show that social media has succeeded in changing the way humans communicate, work, learn, and consume, but on the other hand it also poses a risk of mental health and overdependence. Therefore, it is necessary to increase digital literacy so that people can use social media more wisely and in a balanced way.
