Abstract

The Drinking Water Supply System (DWSS) is an essential infrastructure for providing safe, sustainable, and adequate drinking water services to the community. One of its primary components is the drinking water distribution network, which delivers treated water from treatment facilities to consumers. This study aimed to analyze the technical characteristics of the drinking water distribution network in the Gorontalo City service area using technical data obtained during an internship at the Building, Infrastructure, and Regional Development Center (BPBPK) Gorontalo. A descriptive quantitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through field observations, technical documentation, pipeline network drawings, and project documents related to the rehabilitation of the distribution system. The analysis focused on the existing condition of the water supply system, pipe materials, pipe diameters, number of pipeline segments, and total network length. The results indicate that the drinking water distribution network in Gorontalo City has a total length of approximately 147.5 km, consisting of 2,879 pipeline segments with diameters ranging from 50 mm to 600 mm. Plastic pipes (PVC/HDPE) dominate the network, accounting for 93.6%, while concrete pipes represent only 6.4%. The 150 mm diameter pipe is the most widely used, with a total length of 58,229 m (39.5%) of the entire network. These findings indicate that the distribution network has been designed to support reliable water services through an appropriate combination of pipe materials and diameters according to service area requirements. The findings are expected to provide technical information for improving the management and future development of the drinking water distribution system in Gorontalo City.
