This study examines the strategic position of Syekh Burhanuddin Ulakan within the intellectual landscape of Islam in the Malay World, focusing on the scholarly connectivity between Minangkabau and Aceh during the seventeenth century. The research employs a qualitative library research approach by analyzing relevant primary and secondary sources concerning his biography, knowledge transmission, and the institutionalization of Islamic teachings on the western coast of Sumatra. Data were analyzed through data reduction, historical interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Syekh Burhanuddin Ulakan was not merely a local preacher but also a key intellectual link connecting Minangkabau Islamic traditions with regional and global scholarly networks through his educational relationship with Syekh Abdurrauf al-Singkili. The study further demonstrates that the Shattariyah Order functioned as a cultural bridge that integrated Islamic law with local customs through an adaptive process of vernacularization. Moreover, the surau educational system played a significant role in institutionalizing Islamic values and strengthening transregional scholarly networks. The study concludes that the cross-strait intellectual network established by Syekh Burhanuddin contributed to the formation of an inclusive, moderate, and culturally rooted Islamic tradition in Minangkabau. The implications of this research suggest that integrating local wisdom with transregional Islamic scholarly networks can serve as an effective model for strengthening religious moderation, Islamic education, and cultural resilience in contemporary Indonesian society
