Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion. Obesity, which occurs due to excessive body fat accumulation, is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the characteristics of obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Kayon Community Health Center (Puskesmas Kayon) working area. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach and involved 47 respondents consisting of patients at the Kayon Community Health Center. Data were collected through interviews and anthropometric measurements, including body mass index, waist circumference, and upper arm circumference. The results showed that 48.9% of respondents were obese based on body mass index, 59.6% based on waist circumference, and 4.3% based on upper arm circumference. A total of 14.9% of respondents were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Data analysis showed that obesity, based on waist circumference, had a clearer relationship with the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study concluded that obesity, especially based on waist circumference and body mass index, is associated with the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, although the prevalence remains low. Better prevention efforts in managing obesity are needed to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the region.
