This study evaluated the effect of post-milking teat dipping with a 1% iodine solution on subclinical mastitis, milk normality, total plate count (TPC), reductase time, and pH of fresh milk from smallholder dairy cows in the Pekuncen District of Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. The study was conducted from December 9 to December 23, 2024. Twenty-six lactating cows from four farmer groups were screened using the California Mastitis Test (CMT), and 20 cows with subclinical mastitis were included in the study. Teats were dipped in 1% iodine after every milking for seven consecutive days, and milk was analyzed before and after treatment. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests. Teat dipping did not significantly affect the number of CMT-positive cows (20 vs. 17; P>0.05), milk normality (P>0.05), or milk pH (P>0.05). However, the TPC decreased significantly from 3.63 × 106 to 1.22 × 106 CFU/mL (P<0.01), and the reductase time increased from 2.50 to 3.90 h (P<0.01). Post-milking iodine teat dipping for seven days did not reduce subclinical mastitis but improved the microbiological quality of the fresh milk.
