study aims to examine the effectiveness of using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students' critical thinking skills at SMA Negeri 6 Padangsidimpuan. The research employed a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The population of this study consisted of all eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 6 Padangsidimpuan, totaling 204 students. The sampling technique used was cluster sampling, from which class XI-2 was selected as the research sample, consisting of 34 students. The instruments used in the study included an observation sheet for the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach and a test to measure students' mathematical critical thinking skills. The data analysis techniques applied were both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that the implementation of the RME approach in class XI was categorized as good, with an average observation score of 3.08. Students’ critical thinking skills before the implementation of RME were in the "fair" category, with an average pretest score of 63.78. After applying the RME approach in the learning process, a significant improvement was observed, with an average posttest score of 77.80, which falls into the "good" category. Based on the hypothesis testing, the t-test result showed a t-value of 5.566, while the critical t-value (t-table) at df = 33 and a significance level of 0.05 was 1.692. Since t-count > t-table (5.566 > 1.692), and the Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000, which is less than 0.05, the alternative hypothesis was accepted. This indicates that there is a significant effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students' critical thinking skills in class XI at SMA Negeri 6 Padangsidimpuan. The findings demonstrate that the RME approach has a significant positive impact on students' mathematical critical thinking skills. A total of 76.5% of students achieved a score ≥ 70, indicating that the learning process was effective. The N-Gain value was 0.63, which is categorized as moderate, meaning that the RME approach is moderately effective in enhancing students’ ability to think critically in a logical and systematic manner.
