Abstract

Libraries are increasingly developing into institutions that have an important role in collecting or preserving various forms of library materials. The impact of this is of course that every library must carry out the task of preserving or preserving various forms of library materials owned to anticipate the threat of damage which could result in the loss of intellectual content in these library materials. In practice, collection preservation activities are not only the responsibility of librarians. Ideally, it also requires awareness of users who utilize and use the collection. The aim of this activity is to increase understanding regarding the preservation and conservation of library materials and improve skills related to the preservation and conservation of library materials. The results of this activity are a) The implementation of community service went smoothly in accordance with the expectations of the team implementing community service, because almost all preservation actions were carried out, namely including preventive actions by implementing non-formal education for librarians, cleaning dusty library materials , regulating room temperature humidity, carrying out weeding of collections, tutorials on repackaging information and restorative actions by carrying out binding and lamination activities on damaged physical book collections, b) Participants are aware of the importance of preservation and conservation of library materials in preserving library materials owned by the library, c) Participants' responses to this activity stated that the delivery of the material was good and participants understood the explanation given. This is demonstrated by an interactive atmosphere between participants and the service team, as well as d) increasing insight both theoretically and practically regarding preservation and conservation procedures.

Abstract

Peta merupakan representasi visual abstrak geografis yang dapat membantu dalam menunjukkan lokasi wilayah, navigasi, analisis data spasial, dan perencanaan tata ruang, sehingga sering diakses oleh pemustaka di Perpustakaan Pusat Survei Geologi. Maka dari itu, diperlukan preservasi, terutama preservasi preventif, agar bentuk fisik peta tidak rusak dan informasi yang terdapat di dalamnya tidak hilang. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Preservasi preventif yang dilakukan di Perpustakaan Pusat Survei Geologi di antaranya mengatur suhu dan kelembapan ruangan, menjaga intensitas cahaya ruangan, memberikan kamper di ruangan dan tempat penyimpanan untuk mencegah munculnya jamur dan serangga, memberikan bantuan layanan kepada pemustaka, serta memasang CCTV untuk mencegah terjadinya pencurian. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah kegiatan preservasi preventif di Perpustakaan Pusat Survei Geologi telah dilaksanakan dengan baik.

Abstract

Preservation and conservation of library materials are carried out with the aim of saving the information contained in library materials at the Library and Archives Service of Gianyar Regency, so that they can still be used and avoid damage from various factors so that the collection can continue to be used by users for a long time. The approach used is qualitative descriptive, by collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. This study aims to identify weaknesses, obstacles, and challenges faced in the implementation of preservation and conservation activities of library materials at the Library and Archives Service of Gianyar Regency. The research findings show that the Library and Archives Service of Gianyar Regency experiences various challenges in efforts to preserve and conserve library materials, such as room temperature, sunlight, dust, insects, and humans that can damage the quality of library materials.

Abstract

Perawatan dan pelestarian bahan pustaka dilakukan dengan tujuan, melestarikkan nilai-nilai informasi yang terkandung di dalam sebuah dokumen, mempercepat temu balik informasi, menjaga aspek keindahan dan kerapian dokumen, memelihara bahan perpustakaan agar tetap bisa digunakan, serta mencegah koleksi dari berbagai faktor yang sifatnya merusak. Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan artikel ini yaitu studi literatur, dengan menitikberatkan pada segi mengupas, meringkas dan mengumpulkan suatu literatur, kemudian diberikan anaslisinya. Perawatan dan pelestarian dilakukan di perpustakaan Universitas Bengkulu yaitu, 1) membersihkan koleksi dari debu, 2) membersihkan lantai setiap hari, 3) menghindari menggunakan bookmar atau pembatas buku yang tebal, 3) pegang kedua sisi buku saat membaca, 4) menyimpan buku ditempat yang kering, 5) melakukan penyiangan koleksi, 6) alih bentuk menggunakan media, 7) reproduksi bahan pustaka, 8) penjilidan dan laminasi. Adapun faktor penyebab kerusakan bahan pustaka yaitu, 1) faktor fisik atau karakterisitik bahan, 2) faktor lingkungan atau iklim, 3) faktor manusia. Kegiatan dan pelestarian bahan pustaka diperlukan sumber daya manusia yang handal. Kendala dalam pelestarian bahan pustaka yaitu, kurangnya tenaga pelestarian, belum adanya lembaga yang menanganinya secara khusus dan kurangnya dana.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan manajemen preservasi kuratif pada bahan pustaka di Perpustakaan SMK Negeri 2 Palembang berdasarkan teori manajemen George R. Terry yang mencakup Planning (Perencanaan), Organizing (Pengorganisasian), Actuating (Pelaksanaan), dan Controlling (Pengawasan). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi lapangan, wawancara mendalam dengan kepala perpustakaan dan staf, serta studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: Planning dilakukan melalui identifikasi kerusakan koleksi setiap akhir semester; Organizing belum berjalan optimal karena ketiadaan staf khusus preservasi; Actuating mencakup perbaikan fisik seperti penjilidan ulang dan penyambungan halaman dengan alat sederhana; Controlling dilakukan melalui evaluasi kelayakan koleksi sebelum kembali ke rak sirkulasi. Kendala utama yang ditemukan adalah keterbatasan anggaran khusus dan kurangnya kompetensi teknis SDM di bidang restorasi bahan pustaka. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan perlunya penyusunan Standar Operasional Prosedur (SOP) tertulis untuk menjamin kualitas pelestarian koleksi secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Libraries must carry out essential activities such as preservation and conservation, but in practice, various obstacles arise that prevent them from running smoothly. This study seeks to describe efforts to maintain and protect library items at the Bojonegoro University Library, as well as the challenges associated with carrying out these operations. This study employs descriptive research methodologies and a qualitative approach. Researchers analyzed data gathered through firsthand observations, interviews, and documentation. The Miles and Huberman model is used in the data analysis technique, namely for data reduction, data display, and conclusion drafting. Meanwhile, data veracity is checked using triangulation techniques. According to the study's findings, preservation and conservation actions such as binding, changing covers, re-covering, and digitalization media to the thesis collection were carried out at Bojonegoro University Library. Maintain cleanliness and control room humidity, supply plastic covers for all library materials. The issues encountered include a lack of facilities, room availability, a limited budget, and a shortage of human resources. Fumigation activities have never been carried out due to a lack of funds and qualified staff

Abstract

The maintenance and preservation of library materials is carried out with the aim of preserving the information values ??contained in a document, accelerating information retrieval, maintaining the beauty and tidiness of documents, maintaining library materials so that they can still be used, and preventing collections from various factors that are damaging. The method used in writing this article is a literature study, with an emphasis on peeling, summarizing and collecting literature, then giving the analysis. Maintenance and preservation are carried out in the library, namely, 1) cleaning the collection from dust, 2) cleaning the floor every day, 3) avoiding using thick bookmarks, 3) holding both sides of the book while reading, 4) storing books in a dry place, 5) weeding the collection, 6) changing the shape using media, 7) reproduction of library materials, 8) binding and laminating. The factors that causing damages to library materials are, 1) physical factors or material characteristics, 2) environmental or climatic factors, 3) human factors. Activities and preservation of library materials required reliable human resources. Constraints in the preservation of library materials, namely, the lack of preservation personnel, the absence of institutions that handle it specifically and lack of funds.
