Abstract

Abstract: It has been carried out the isolation of citronellal from citronella oil by fractinational distillation under reduced pressure. From 500 g citronella oil, citronellal has been received at the amount of 10 g with the purity of 81.30%, 210 g with the purity of 99.14%. Keywords: isolation of citronellal, citronella oil, fractional distillation under reduced pressure

Abstract

Abstract: Collagen is the most abundant protein of white connective tissue, comprising approximately 30% of total animal protein. This is a fibrous protein which give strength and flexibility in the tissue and bone, also playing an important role for skin and tendon. The utilization of collagen from fish scales waste become an alternative for medication (pharmaceutical), and daily care as cosmetic, which known by cosmeceutical. Nanotechnology application can be completing of cosmeceutical, not only for cure, but also for daily treatment using an wasted materials changed into beneficial product to be developed. Keywords : collagen, fish scales waste, cosmeceutical

Abstract

Abstract: Triterpenoid saponin, hydrocosaponin A-F, isolated compound from Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides Lmk. performed cytotoxic activity on KB, Daoy and WiDr cancer cells. Methanolic extract of this herb was also investigated in inhibiting cancer development on liver and cervical cancer. Therefore, it is potential to be developed as chemopreventive agent. The objective of this study is to determine cytotoxic activity and compound in diethyl ether extract of Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides Lmk. herbs. The cytotoxic effect of extract on MCF-7 breast cancer cell line was assayed using MTT method while phytochemical analysis was observed using normal phase Thin Layer Chromatoraphy (TLC). Diethyl ether extract of Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides had cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 cells with IC50 365 g/mL. TLC analysis observed that the extract contain flavonoid compounds. Keywords : Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides, MCF-7, cytotoxic, flavonoid

Abstract

Abstract: Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is a pure oils that is extracted from fresh coconut meat at low temperatures. The formulation of VCO in cream dosage form could retain skin moisture and improve the acceptability. Xanthan gum is one of the emulsifier that used to form oil in water (O/W) cream. The purpose of this research were to determine the effect of xanthan gum concentration to the physical stability of VCO cream. VCO creams were prepared by emulsifying the oil phase and the water phase with the variation of xanthan gum concentration (2.5; 2.7; 2.9; 3.1; 3.3% w/w). Observation of the physical stability of the cream includes organoleptic, emulsion type, droplets size, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, and ratio of separation volume was conducted until 7th week, and also the freeze-thaw test for three cycles. The results showed that each formulation could produces homogeneous light brown cream with oil in water type. Increasing of xanthan gum concentration would increases viscosity of the cream so that spreadability decreases and adhesion increases during stability study. Ratio of separation volume increased after three cycles of freeze-thaw test. Cream with 3.3% w/w xanthan gum had the optimum physical stability. Keywords : VCO, O/W cream, xanthan gum, physical stability

Abstract

Abstract: The research has purpose to get information about the effect of water-boiled red yeast rice for raising the platelet levels so that it can be used as a supplement for patients of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). The research was pure experimental with direct sampling design. The research used Wistar male rats, age 2-3 months, and weight + 150-250 grams. Rats randomly divided into five treatment groups. First group (negative control) given CMC Na 1% 0.72 g/KgBW for 7 days followed by 2.5 mL of distilled water for 5 days. Second group (positive control) given chloramphenicol 0.72 g/KgBW for 7 days followed by distilled water for 5 days. Fourth-fifth group (treatment) given chloramphenicol dose 0.72 g/KgBW for 7 days followed by water-boiled red yeast rice dose 2; 1; and 0.5 g/KgBW orally for 5 days. Blood sampling taken on day 0 and day 12, blood taken from the sinus orbitalis eyes for measuring levels of platelet count. Platelet concentration data that got were analyzed by Shapiro-Wilk test to see the distribution of data. If data are normally distributed then continue the analysis with paired-samples t test analysis, if data is not normal distributed then followed by Wilcoxon test analysis to know the difference levels of platelets experiment by treatment and duration of the test. The results of this research showed that water-boiled red yeast rice has effect to increase platelet levels in male rats induced by chloramphenicol at a dose of 2; 1; and 0.5 g/KgBW and gived platelet levels increasing effect at rate of 18.78, 14.02, and 5.45%. Keywords : red yeast rice, platelets, chloramphenicol
