Abstract

Abstract

InLaudato Si(2015), Pope Francis offers a contextual theological reflection on humanitys relationship with the planet. Widely considered as a theological discourse par excellence, the papal encyclical combines theological reflections with studies from various scientific disciplines. The result is a theology that is both contextual and relevant to the challenges of the present world. Against this backdrop, this article argues that the development of a theology of migration in recent decades presents an attempt to conduct theological inquiries in a manner consonant to Pope Francis theological method. This is due to the method used in migration theology. It begins by reflecting upon concrete phenomena and encounters (interculturality). Subsequently, it considers multidisciplinary scientific analyses. Finally, it offers practical consequences for both moral and pastoral decisions. This article aims to describe the approaches taken by contemporary theologians in their attempts to develop a multidisciplinary and intercultural migration theology. Moreover,it seeks to show that migration theology can be an importantlocusfor a public theology, as it is able to enter into the realm of discourse and dialogue with the wider public for the sake of the common good.

Abstract

The Church as the mystical body of Christ is called to sanctification (LG 42). The Churchs challenge to live up to the vocation of sanctification faces the challenge of antrophocentrism in modern times. The dissemination of antrophocentrism in modern times have shaped the emergence of new concepts, namely rationalism, individualism, and secularism, making humans to be apathetic and leading to a superficial spiritual life. The severity of the challenges experienced by the Church in modern times demands militancy of the spiritual life that is rooted in the Eucharist. This article aims to discuss the Eucharist as the root of all forms of the Church sanctification in the world as viewed by Raniero Cantalamessa and Pope Benedict XVI. Both Cantalmessa and Pope Benedict XVI show that the sanctification within the Church is rooted in the Eucharist. Through Eucharist as the real encounter, The Church is transformed by the divine power of Christ which revives, moves, supports, and strengthens the pilgrimage of Church in this world. The writer approaches this problem by scrutinizing the viewpoints by Raniero Cantalamessa and Pope Benedict XVI by carrying out the critical history method and library research. Then, the writer synthesizes the two viewpoints on the Eucharist as the root of sanctification. This writing is expected to be a viewpoint contribution to spiritual life of all Christians in living the call to the sanctification.

Abstract

The universe as our shared home becomes the place and source of life for all creation. However, today's earth inhabited by humans is being hit by a global environmental crisis. To respond to the crisis, there has now emerged a new awareness in overcoming the ecological crisis, especially by exploring religious principles, which is called ecotheology, namely the study of the relationship between all beings living in their environment and God as their Creator. Related to this, there are two theologians from the Islamic and Christian religious traditions who talk about ecotheology. In his idea of ecotheology, Seyyed Hossein Nasr wants to remind people that nature is a representation of the presence of God in the world (wajh Allah) and humans as means of manifestation of Allah's will on earth (khalifatullah fi al-ardi) is one cosmic entity which cannot be separated from one another. Meanwhile, Sallie McFague wants to remind humans as partners of God to always realize that this universe is the body of God that needs to be respected and cared for as a form of responsibility for our shared home. So, the study of ecology as a paradigm always stems from reflection on human behavior, especially about the reflection of the relationship between humans and nature as their environment. Finally, a contextualized reading of McFagues ecotheology will be presented.

Abstract

Meister Eckhart is a German philosopher, theologian, and mystician of the 13th - 14th century, who has various important perspectives on the philosophical-theological (Human Being-God), spiritual and of course mystical concerning the unity of the soul with God through self-detachment. For Eckhart, Being is identical with God Himself as the only reality. All things outside God are nothingness. This figure was influential in his day, though not free from some excesses of his views that are considered controversial and make his teaching labeled as heresy by the authority of the Church. Nevertheless, his various philosophical-theological, and spiritual insights concerning the concept of Deity, especially in the mystical level, are very relevant to be experienced both in the context of theological studies and the development of spiritual life.
