Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research entitled “Presuppostion In The Film “Beauty And The Beast” By Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spilotopoulos  (Pragmatics Analysis). This research is  an attempt identify and analyze the types and meanings of presupposition in the film ‘Beauty and the Beast’. In this research, the writer used descriptive method which analyze based on the theory of George Yule about the types of presupposition and the meanings of presupposition in the film beauty and the beast. In this research, the writer used the types and the meaning of presupposition based on George Yule theory. According to Yule 1996, there are six types of presupposition, they are : Existential presupposition, Factive presupposition, Lexical presupposition, Structural presupposition, Non- factive presupposition, and Counterfactive presupposition. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to describe and analyze English and Wayoli language which focuses on the question words in interrogative sentences in relation to their form and functions in the both languages. The English data have been collected from several books, whereas the data of Wayoli language have been collected by interviewing from some informants the research questions are what are the forms of question words in interrogative sentence in English and Wayoli Language? And what are the similarities and differences of both two language in terms of question words in interrogative sentence in those two language?. The data will be described and analyzed descriptively in terms of their forms and function by using Aarts and Aarts; Murphy in terms of form and Tracy in terms of function. The result shows that English and Wayoli language have the similarities and differences in terms of question word (wh-question). Those are: who, when, how, why, what, where, which (question words of English), question words of Wayoli language are: giyana, thumduo, sha’alou, I’arhou, ohrou, ale’a, ngale’a (question words of Wayoli language). The differences can be seen in those two languages. In English there are three forms of interrogative sentences, whereas inWayoli language there is only one form of interrogative sentences. The English interrogative sentences always use auxiliary verbs, whereas Wayoli language doesn’t. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keywords: Question words, English and Wayoli Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is entitled ‘’Nomina dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Tabaru (Suatu Analisis Kontrastif)’’. The objects of the research are to identify and classify the kinds and function of noun in English and Tabaru Language, The writer uses the concept by Thomson and Martinet (1986), and analyzed the data by using contrastive methods to find out the differences based on the theory of Lado (1971).  The English data were collected from some English book. While the Tabaru Language data were collected from some informants.  The result shows that there are differences between the function of nouns in English and Tabaru Language in terms of function on possesive case. The Possesive case form in English attach to the apostrophe‘s while the possessive case in Tabaru Language does not.  Keywords: Nomina in English and Tabaru Language: Contrastive Analisis

Abstract

ABSTRACT   This skripsiwas made as a requirement to obtain bachelor Degree in English in Sam Ratulangi University. This research is entitled “Discourse analysis of King George VI Speech”With God’s Help, We shall Prevail”(First Radio Address, Britania. September 3, 1939)”. It is an attempt to analyze and explain the discourse analysis norms in King George VI speech. There are three steps to finish this research. First step is preparation,the writer reads some books about language, linguistics, and discourse analysis to find out the relevant theories.Second step is data collection, the writer finds King George VI speech and reads it for several times to have a deep understanding. Third step is data analysis,The data arecollected, identified, classified and analyzed. The method used in this research is taken from Alba-Juez (2008:20) and supported the theory by De Beaugrande and Dressler (1986:8) and Aarts and Aarts (1982: 4). The theory consists of seven norms, they are: Cohesion: pronoun, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, lexical, Coherence: mark coherence, and unmark coherence, Intentionality, Acceptability, Informatifity, Situationality, and Intertextuality. The result of this research shows that in cohesion there are 50 pronouns, 7 subtitusion, no elipsis, 34 conjuction, 10 lexical. In this speech, there are 21 mark coherence and there is no unmark coherence. There are also the norms like intentionality is focused on user or producer by expressing a disappointment and sadness. Acceptabilityhas a generally acceptable meaning, according to the history of the text of this speech is received, the king get a warm welcome from the people and members of the royal. Informatifity is can provide full information,can be known through historical conditions occurred. Situationalityhas a relationship with the surrounding circumstances, refers to the situation of war. And intertextualityrefer to the agreement as a protector of the independence of Poland. Keywords: discourse analysis, speech, seven norms, King George VI

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Preposition in the Book of Exodus” is written to identify and classify the forms as well as the meanings of the preposition found in the book of Exodus. The writer uses a theory from Aarts and Aarts (1982) to classify the forms of preposition and from Harman (1986) to analyze the meaning of prepositions. The method used in this research is descriptive method, and the data were taken from the book of Exodus based on The Holy Bible New International Version. The forms of the preposition found in the Book of Exodus are: simple preposition (one-word preposition) consisting of: at, before, from, in, between, by, during, of, on, since, until, and with, and complex prepositions (multi-word preposition) consisting of: according to, as to, because of, in addition to, in front of, and out of. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “The Usage of Slang by Millennial in Malang”. The aims of this research are to identify the usage of slang by millennial in Malang to describe their forms and meanings.The usage data were collected from Millennial in Malang. The collected data were analysed using a descriptive methods introduce by Bloomfield (1933), Guth (1961), and Fishman (1971). Practically, this research may provide good comprehension to the readers about the forms of the usage of slang by millennial in Malang. The results show that the forms of the usage of slang are facetious mispronunciation, shortened forms, interjection, figurative expressions and nick name. In terms of meaning, the usage of slang by millennial in Malang words were analysed and translated according to the context used by using Urban Dictionary.As a conclusion. The millennial in Malang used slangs  for their daily conversation. Especially millennial in Roemah Kantja coffee house, their used slangs to talk with each other in every situation. Keywords : slang, millennial, malang, sosiolinguistic

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Morphophonemic Process in English and Gorontalo Language: a Contrastive Analysis” aims at identifying, analyzing and describing the morphophonemic processes and finding out the similarities and the differences of morphophonemic processes in English and Gorontalo language by using of Crystal’s (2008) and Nida’s (1949) theory. The English data were collected from several English textbooks. Some of them areA Course in Modern Linguistics(1968) by Hockett,Zeitchrift für Anglistik und Amerikanistik (1969) by Lehnert,Introducing English Linguistics (2009) by Meyer, etc. and the data of Gorontalo language were collected frombooks such asMorfologi dan Sintaksis Bahasa Gorontalo (1988) by Alitu et all.,Kamus Bahasa Gorontalo – Indonesia (2001) by Pateda, and Tata Bahasa sederhana Bahasa Gorontalo (2006) by Pateda and Pulubuhu and fivenative speakers at the age of 35-75 years old in Gorontalo. The results of this research shows that in morphophonemic process of English and Gorontalo language have some similarities anddifferences. The similarities are that both languages have kinds of morphophonemic processes. English has seven kinds of morphophonemic processes, they are assimilation, dissimilation, reduction of clusters, loss of consonant phonemes, loss of vowel phonemes, palatalization, and nasalization whereas in Gorontalo language six kinds of them found.The difference is no palatalization found in Gorontalo Language. Other similarities anddifferences are in dissimilation. English has six kinds of dissimilations, they are progressive, regressive, contiguous phonemes, noncontiguous phonemes, point of articulation, and manner of articulation whereas Gorontalo language has only five kinds of dissimilations and doesn’t have contiguous phonemes.   Keywords: Morphophonemic Process, English and Gorontalo Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Jenis Makna dari Lirik–Lirik Lagu Terlaris Oleh Boyband VIXX”. The aims of the research are to identify the types of meaning in the song lyrics, to classify the types of meaning and to analyze the meaning contained in the hit song lyrics by VIXX boy band.            This research used descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer focused on identifying the words and phrases that contain the seven types of meaning based on the  theory of Leech (1981) that divides the meaning into seven types, namely; conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning, social meaning and thematic meaning. The writer then identifies and analyzes the part which contains the seven types of meaning respectively.            The results of this research show that the hit song lyrics of VIXX boyband have only 6 types of meaning. They are 8 conceptual meanings, 13 connotative meanings, 5 affective meanings, 13 reflected meanings, 9 collocative meanings and 13 thematic meanings.      Keywords: Types of Meaning, Hit Song Lyrics of VIXX Boyband, Phrases, Sentences

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled ?Illocutionary Act in the Film Gifted Hands by John Pielmeier: A Pragmatic Analysis?. It is an analysis of pragmatic investigation that focuses on one aspect of speech act called illocutionary act. It is an attemp to find the kinds and functions of illocutionary act in the film.   The data has been taken from the characters utterances in the film. The writer analyzed the data descriptively by concentrating on utterances which contain illocution. The theory used in this research is taken from Searle?s theory about illocutionary acts classification.   The finding of this research shows the kinds and functions of the illocutionary act that are found in the film Gifted Hands. These are classified into five categories, those are assertives: stating, suggesting, vowing, and reporting; directives: ordering, commending, requesting, and advising; commissives: promising and offering; expressive: thanking, praising, and blaming; declaratives: naming, suspending, and declaring.   Theoretically, the writer extends that this research can give some contribution for students to understand  kinds of illocutionary act and their functions which are not only in this film, but also in other literary works especially in daily communication.   Keywords : Illocutionary, Speech Act, Film Gifted Hands, Pragmatic Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is entitled “Connotative Meaning in Popular Song Lyrics by The Script Band (A Semantic Analysis)”. The aims of the research are to identify the connotative meaning in the song lyrics, to classify the types of connotative and to analyze the connotative meaning in popular song lyrics by The Script band. This research uses descriptive method. In collecting data, the writer focused on identifying the words and phrases that contain connotative meaning and classify them based on theory of J. N. Hook (in Widarso 1989) which divides the connotative meaning into positive connotative, negative connotative, and neutral connotative. Then the writer uses theory of Geoffrey Leech (1981) to analyze the connotative meaning in popular song lyrics by The Script band. The result of this research showed that there are positive connotative and negative connotative in the song lyrics and there are 25 words and 15 phrases containing the connotative meaning and the connotative meaning have variation in their description.   Keywords: Connotative, Types of Connotative, Song Lyrics by The Script
