Abstract

ABSTRAKTION   Diese Untersuchung behandelt sich über “Präposition Akkusativ und Dativ im Jugendmagazin (JUMA)”. Die Probleme in dieser Untersuchung sind welche Akkusativ- und Dativpräpositionen es im Jugendmagazin (JUMA) gibt und was die Bedeutung der Akkusativ- und Dativpräpositionen im Jugendmagazin (JUMA) sind.Sie hat das Ziel, um die Akkusativ- und Dativpräpositionen zu analysieren, zu identifizieren, zu klasifizieren und zu beschreiben und um die Bedeutung der Akkusativ- und Dativpräpositionen zu analysieren und zu beschreiben. Die Daten werden von Jugendmagazin (JUMA) bekommen. Als die Theoretische Grundlage verwendet der Schreiber die Meinungen von Paul Grebe und Dreyer und Schmitt. Der Schreiber benutzt eine deskriptive Methode, um die Daten zu analysieren. Präpositionen mit dem Akkusativ im Jugendmagazin sind bis, durch, entlang, für, gegen, ohne, um. Präposition mit dem Dativ im Jugendmagazin sind ab, aus, auβer, bei, dank, entgegen, gegenüber, gemäβ, mit, nach, seit, von, zu.  Die Bedeutung der Präposition beziehen sich auf die Zeit, Ort, sorgen, ablehnung, Werkzeug oder vermitteln, Zahl, Verlust, Vergleich, Gröβe, Art, Ziel, und gehören.   Stichwörter: die Präposition, Akkusativ, Dativ, Jugendmagazine

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Tindakan Meminta dalam Novel Oliver Twist Karya Charles Dickens: Suatu Analisis Pragmatik” is focused on the one kinds of illocutionary act that is acts of requesting. The purpose of this research, is to identify, classify, analyze, and describe the aspect of act of requesting in the novel “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens, and is done by using descriptive method. In collecting data, the writer concentrated on the utterances which contain the act of requesting produced by the characters in novel. The collected data are analyzed based on Austin’s theory. The result shows that there are nine types of acts of requesting in the novel Oliver Twist, they are: ask, beg, command, demand, direct, inquire, order, pray, and request. It is expected that this research will help the students and the other readers in learning the pragmatics aspects, especially about illocutionary act. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled The Imperative Sentences in Spy Movie by Paul Feig. The objectives of this research are to identify, to classify the imperative forms and to analyze the function of imperative sentences. This research used descriptive method. The writer collected the data of imperative sentences from the script of “Spy” Movie by Paul Feig. After collecting the data, the writer classified forms of imperative sentences by using theory from Quirk and Greenbaum (1973) then analyzed functions of imperative sentences according to the concept of Aarts and Aarts (1982). The result of this research shows that there are 250 imperative sentences found in “Spy” movie by Paul Feig. The forms of imperative sentences consist of imperative sentences which are formed of : Commands without a subject (169), Commands with a subject (32), Commands with let (26), Negative imperative (23), Persuasive imperative is not found in this research. The functions of imperative sentences which are: Command (98), Wish (50), Invitation (26), Warning (76). KEYWORDS: Imperative Sentences, Spy Movie, Syntactic Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to identify and analyze the politeness aspects which are found in the film Eat Pray Love. In this research, the writer focuses on the polite utterance as one aspect of behavior which is found in the film Eat Pray Love. .           This research was done through the descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer paid close attention to the available relevant data through conversation among the characters in the film. Then the writer categorized them into their suitable maxims using the concept of Leech. The finding shows that the uses of politeness maxims in the film are tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim. It is expected that this study can help the students and readers in learning politeness aspects of using language. Keywords: politeness aspects, maxims, Film “Eat Pray Love”.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   This research entitled Negative Sentences in the Film The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The objectives of this research are to identify, to collect and to analyze the negative forms of negative sentences. This research used descriptive method. The writer collected the data of negative sentences from the subtitles in the film The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. After collecting the data, the writer analyzed forms of negative sentences and found out the negative sentences in this film that are mostly used by using the theories of Aarts and Aarts (1982) and Azar (1993). The result of this research shows that there are 215 negative sentences found in the film The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The writer only analyzed 150 data. The forms of negative sentences consist of negative sentences which are formed of do (43), not (37), auxiliary verb and not (24), negative prefixes (17), negative interrogatives (12), no (5), negative sentences contain have (4), question tag (2), never, rarely, seldom, hardly (ever), scarcely (ever), barely (ever) (3), negative sentences contain do and let’s (1), negative sentences contain do and be (1), negative sentences contain have and do (1). Negative sentences that contains daren’t, usedn’t, needn’t (0), negative suffixes (0) are not found in this research. Negative Sentence which is mostly used in this film is negative sentence formed of do with 43 data.   ­­KEYWORDS: Negative Sentences, Film The Fault in Our Stars, Descriptive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT   In this research the writer investigates negative sentences in Meghan Trainor‟s song lyrics. This research is entitled “Negative Sentences in Meghan Trainor‟s Song Lyrics”. The objectives of this research are to identify, to classify and to analyze forms of negative sentences and find out forms of negative sentences which are mostly used in Meghan Trainor‟s Song Lyrics.  This research uses descriptive method. The data were collected from Meghan Trainor‟s song lyrics in album Title (2015). All the collected data were analyzed by using the theories of Aarts and Aarts (1982) and Thomson and Martinet (1986).  The result of this research shows that there are 63 negative sentences found in Meghan Trainor‟s song lyrics. The forms of negative sentences consist of negative sentences which are formed of the word not (48) and negative sentences with negative expression (15). Negative sentences formed of the word not that contains dare, need, and used, and negatif sentence with negative expression none, hardly and hardly ever, are not found in this research. Negative Sentence which is mostly found in Meghan Trainor‟s song lyrics is negative sentence formed of the word not with 48 data. Abstract

                                                ABSTRACTThis research entitled “English Teacher Performances in the Middle and High Schools of Manado Independent School (MIS)” aims to determine the performance of English teachers in planning, implementing and evaluating English learning in bilingual school, as well as knowing the factors that influence the teacher performances. This type of research is descriptive. The theory used to classify performance of teachers is Usman’s (2003) theory, and to determine the factors that influence performances of teachers, Tehseen and Hadi (2015) is applied. The research participants were 6 English teachers (3 teachers in Middle School and 3 teacher in High School). Data were collected by using observation and interview methods. The results of this study indicate that teacher performance is very competitive, each teacher tries to apply the best way in planning, implementing and evaluating the learning process. Factors that influence the performance of teachers are divided into two parts: 1) General factors that include: a) teacher salary, b) working condition, c) students’ behavior, d) relation among the staffs, e) facilities. 2) Special factors, which are the challenges of teacher performances, including: a) time allocation, and b) students’ ability._______________________Keywords : English Teacher, Performance, Factors Influence

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION Diese Untersuchung bespricht über eine Vergleicheanalyse der märchen "Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten'' und ''Der Wolf und Die Sieben Jungen Geiβlein'' Das Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist die Funktion die Figurbenehmen und die Bewegung der Funktion der beiden Märchen zu bestimmen und analysieren. Um das ziel dieser Untersuchung zu erreichen,nämlich zwei Märchen zu analysieren,werden die deskriptive und komparative Methode benutzt. Als die theoretische Grundlage wird die Theori von Vladimir Propp verwendet. Nach dem die beiden Märchen analysiert, kommt der Schreiber zum folgenden Schluβ, das heiβt : der beiden Märchen haben die Ähnlichkeit und den Unterschied, Die Ähnlichkeit liegt an den funktionen der handelnden personen und den sequenzen. Den unterschied liegt an den funktionen den handelden personen.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research, entitled “Analisis Karakter Utama dalam Novel If I Stay Karya Gyle Forman”, is intended to give explanation about the main character namely Mia Hall as portrayed in the novel. The objectives of this research are to identify and analyze Mia Hall’s character, using Stanton’s theory. Stanton suggests the four specific ways on how to analyze a character: they are what the character says and thinks, what the character does, interactions among characters, and action. The methodology used consists of three phases namely; preparation, data collection, and data analysis. The data were taken from Gyle Forman’s novel and analyzed using intrinsic approach to describe Mia Hall’s character. The research findings show that Mia Hall’s character is portrayed in the novel as being frustrated, panic, sad, hopeless, helpless, but at the same time she is full of love. All this is depicted through her expressions, action and dialogue, as well as their interaction among characters in the novel.   Keywords: Analysis main character,Gyle Forman, Mia Hall, Stanton.

Abstract

This research entitled “Quantifier in the Novel Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is written to fulfill the requirement of finishing S1 degree in English Department Faculty of Letters Sam Ratulangi University. The aims of this research are to identify, classify and analyze the quantifiers that exist in the novel Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children written by Ransom Riggs  in terms of  function,  category and form. In analyzing the data the writer uses descriptive method and the concept of  Flor Aarts and Jan Aarts about English Syntactic Structure: Function and Categories in Sentence Analysis.                         In the novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, it is found that there are three forms of the quantifier , they are simple, compound and complex ones. From the functional point of view, the quantifier in this novel has several functions. In the sentence or clause level, the quantifier functions as Subject, Subject Attribute, Predicator Compliment, Direct Object, Indirect Object and Adverbial. In the phrase level, the quantifier can only function as the head of noun phrase, both as the head of noun phrase and determiner, and as determiner only. It also can function as post modifier of noun phrase.                                   Here are some examples of the quantifier in English : someone, somebody, something, anyone, anybody, everyone, everybody, no one, none, some, any, each, all, both, either, few, little, every and no and so on. ____________________________________ Keywords : Functions, Category, Forms, Novel, Miss Peregrine's Home for  Peculiar Children.
