Abstract

The researches about design and manufacturing of portable salt iodizedapparatus using semi-automatic system have been done. The aim of this research was tostudied and to designed salt iodized apparatus which can be operation automatically tosprayer and mixing salt to be iodized. Result of mechanic and automatic system testingshowed all testing parameters working well and stable. Testing result of iodine contentbased on iodat tester colour showed the best iodine content getting from spayer times 3second with KIO3 volume achieve 27 cc and iodat testing appear old puple colour. Testingresult of iodized salt showed all parameters fulfill with SNI. No. 01-3556-200. Theadvantage of this apparatus were easily to removing, low energy consumption, workingautomatically and easy to maintenance.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the quality of arenga palm sugarespecially solid sugar at several markets in Banda Aceh. The research was conducted bysurvey using purposive random sampling method with proportional samples. Five marketschosen are Peunayong, Aceh, Seutui, Kampong Ateuk and Lamnyong. The total number ofpalm sugar traders who spread in the five markets are about 40 peoples. This researchsecured 8 traders as respondents. Needed palm sugar about 1 kilogram for analyses thereal quality. The parameters analyzed include moisture content, insoluble in water, ashcontent and reducing sugar levels. The data analyzed by using histogram and the dataanalysis were made by using SPSS program. The result showed the average moisturecontent and reduced sugar content has met the SNI 01-3743-1995, whereas the insolublematerial and ash content did not have any specifications yet. The average of moisturecontent of the palm sugar were 4,01%, the reduction palm sugar were 7,78%, the insolublematerials were 1,34% and ash content were 2,58%. The palm sugar parameter which mostunspecific materials were the insoluble for 87,5%.

Abstract

The research about processing technology of Tabah bamboo shoots drinkhad been done. It was aimed to find the right technique to produce a high quality andhealthy bamboo shoots drink. The research has two steps. The first step was aimed to findout the best blanching technique and CMC concentration that will be used in the secondstep. Several factors of blanching technique and CMC concentration were tested. Thefactors of blanching technique include the boiling media (water and 3% saline), blanchingtemperature (room temperature, 80 oC, and 100 oC) and blanching duration (0, 1, and 2 hours) which resulted in 13 different treatments, while concentration of CMC was variedin 5 different treatments (0.00; 0.01; 0.02; 0.03; 0.04 %). In the first steps all samples wasobserved both visually, for their stability and bitter taste of fresh bamboo shoots, andchemically, for its water, carbohydrat, dietary fiber, cyanide acid, sugar, and potassiumcontain of bamboo shoots drink. While in the next step, they were observed for theirdietary fiber, pH, plate count agar, sugar, potassium, cyanide acid, taste, and aroma. Thefirst research found out that the most important factor is blanching duration with 3%saline as boiling media for 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes blanching duration and 0.02percent CMC concentrations. Those criteria was then applied in the second research. Itwas found out that using 3% saline as boiling media with 90 - 100 oC blanchingtemperature and 60 minutes blanching duration had been given the best result. Theproduct was its healthy because of its low cyanide acid contents (43.88 mg/kg) lesser thanFAO standard (50 mg/kg) and it also had good quality because of its good stability with3.5 hedonic scale (very like), high potassium amount (438.20 ppm), 0.85 percent dietaryfiber (w/w), 15% sugar, low pH (3.3), and low PCA (75 colony/g) lesser than nationalstandard SNI 01-3719-1995 (200 colony/g). It also had good taste with 3.2 hedonic scale(very like) and aroma with 3.3 hedonic scale (very like).

Abstract

Lemongrass oil is the one type of essential oil that has high economic value.This research purpose to learn the process continued to increase the levels of citral inlemongrass oil using vacuum distillation method. Vacuum distillation process oflemongrass oil was carried out at operating condition: temperature of 100 to 140 oC,pressures of 50 to 90 mbar and pH of 3 to 7. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy(GCMS) results show that vacuum distillation process increased the concentration of citralof lemongrass oil. The experimental results show that variations of temperature, pressureand pH influence on concentration of citral. The highest citral of 84.7% obtained atexperimental condition of temperature of 140 oC, pressure of 70 mbar and pH of 5.

Abstract

Nowadays, the use of fuel as the primer source of energy has been carriedout using petroleum classified as non-renewable fossil. The product needed hassignificantly increased along with its uses in industry and transportation lastly spurringthe necessity of a new alternative source of energy. This research was aimed to obtain bestoperating condition to product biodiesel via transesterification process of jatropha seedusing 3% wt. of KOH as catalyst. Condition process of producing biodiesel were at 30, 40,50, 60 and 70C of process temperatures, 200, 300 and 400 rpm of agitation speeds, and1:12, 1:14, and 1:16 of mole ratios between jatropha seed and methanol. The result of thisresearch showed that the higher ratio between Jatropha curcas and methanol the higherbiodiesel obtained. While for the operating condition, the faster agitation speed alsoinfluenced in the more amount of biodiesel yield. Best operating temperature obtained wasat 60C. The analysis of the product including density, viscosity, acid number and flashpoint were 846 kg/m3, 5 cSt, 0,67 mg KOH/gr and 35C, respectively.
