Abstract

This study assessed biology students’ and science teachers’ views on the nature of science (NOS). Aspects of NOS included science definition, empiric, experiment, experiment in scientific knowledge development, tentative, scientific theories and laws, subjective (theory-laden), social and culture embededness, creative and imaginative. Participants were 34 undergraduate preservice biology teachers at seventh semester and 23 science teachers enrolled in the training. An open-ended questionaire of NOS (VNOS-C) adapt from Lederman, et al., (2002) coupled with some individuals interviews was used to assess participants’ NOS views before and after training. All answers were categorized based on Abd-El-Khalick & Akerson (2009): informed, partially informed, and naive Before training, the majority of participants held naive views of the target NOS except subjective. During the training explisit reflective approaches were used with inquiry teaching. Post-training assessment indicated that there were improvement of participants’ views on NOS. Nearly all aspects were improve with varied percentage of improvement, the range were 10%-55%, except social and culture embededness decreased. The result of the present study suggested the teaching method in preservice and inservice teacher education should more intensively use inquiry teaching and emphasize on nature of science.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was aimed to investigate the effect of a website as a media toward students’ learning outcomes at XI grade of SMAN 1 Bojonegara on the subconcept of human hormone system. Class XI IPA 1 as the experimental group and the class XI IPA 2 as the control group. The samples were choosen by simple random sampling technique. The method used was a quasi experimental design with Randomized Control Group Eksperimental. Data were collected by using objective tests and questionnaires. The calculated t test with 95% confidence (α = 0,05) suggest that student ability of the experimental group was better than control group. Students’ response to the use of website as learning media was good. It can be concluded that website as learning media had an effect towards students’ learning outcomes in the subconcepts of human hormone system.

Abstract

Areca known as the pinang tree and have benefit as a powerful medicine on men. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are symbiotic on almost every root plants, but the diversity of AMF on rizosfer Areca is unknown. Therefore research on variety and colonies AMF on rizosfer Areca is needed. Soil samples of Areca were isolated and processed by wet sieving and decauting method. Root samples of Areca were stained by using trypan blue in lactoglycerol. There were 3 genera of AMF collected from Bogor Botanical Garden (4 species Acaulospora, 3 species Glomus, and 2 species Scutellospora) which is associated with 3 species of Areca. Percentage colonies of AMF rizosfer on roots Areca was counted. Areca has an intermediate type of arbuscular.

Abstract

ABSTRACTMotivation is interest of the students for learniing that are driven by the desire to achieve the learning outcomes. The outcomes is an important part of learning. Results of student learning is essentially changed the student behavior which include the areas of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Learning outcomes are the result of an interaction act of learning and teaching acts. For a lecturer, teaching acts ends with the evaluation of learning outcomes. In terms of student learning outcomes is the end of the teaching of the peak of the learning process. In the process pembeljaran, learning outcomes can be influenced by internal factors possessed by students, namely blood type. Blood type is a characteristic of blood from an individual because of different types of carbohydrates and protein on the surface of red blood cell membranes. The purpose of this study was to determine the motivation of learning on student learning outcomes on student course Basic Physics based on blood type. The results showed the average learning outcomes from the largest to the smallest are owned by people who have blood type O, A, AB, B. This shows that internal factors influence the process of student learning outcomes.

Abstract

ABSTRACTHigher order thinking skills are needed to understand the problem and the essence of the lecture material Biology Sel. Study design Research and Development aims to develop reasoning skills and analytic thinking biology student teachers through the application of learning models Integration Attributes Formative Assessment (IAAF). Some 61 students of Biology Education Semarang State University who is doing his third semester courses Cell Biology is the subject of research. Analytical reasoning and  thinking ability of students is measured through individual assignments, group assignments concept map creation and preparation of the Review articles, and 30 items about the shape of the selected response and constructed response questions, validated questions. The result showed that the ability of reasoning and analytical thinking of students can be expanded significantly, although the development of the ability of argumentation, one category of analytic thinking skills, they need serious attention.
