Abstract

The analysis of “The Effectiveness of Scrabble Game For Students’ Spelling Mastery In Vocabulary Learning” is still difficult to find. The researcher formulates the statement of the research, scrabble game is effective for students’ spelling mastery in vocabulary learning. The objective of the research is to find out whether scrabble game is effective for stdents’ spelling mastery. This research uses experimental design, with the hypothesis there is difference in spelling mastery of seventh graders taught by scrabble game and who are not. The subjects are seventh graders students of SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Surabaya where VIID as experimental class and VIIC as control class. Data colection technique uses test, pre-test and post test. The score pre-test and post test are compared to count the difference. The pre-test and post test score are counted using SPSS 1.6 Software to know the significant different. The counting result shows the ρ-value is 0,000 for the experiment class. Meanwhile the Eta square result is 0,41 that means the treatment gives large effect. It proves that the scrabble game is effective for student’s spelling mastery.

Abstract

This research purposed to search and find out the correlations between students’ mastery of past tense and their achievement in writing narrative text. The method in this research used a purposive sampling technique with total sample 30 students.  In this research, the data are obtained using two kinds of test namely Grammar and writing test. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed using Product Moment Pearson. The outlays of this research, the average score of past tense is 69,33and writing score is 77,33. Thus, the final result in this research when the formula correlation is applied, the score is 0,797 or substantial. It means that the r value is higher than r table; students’ master past tense influence to writing narrative text. It can be concluded that there is a positive correlation between students’ mastery of past tense and their achievement in writing narrative text

Abstract

This study is attempted to analyze an existentialism of Chekhov’s main characters Smirnov in “The Bear”, Lomov in “The Proposal” and Ivan in “A Tragedian in Spite of Himself”. The data are taken from the dialogues selected in the plays mentioned. There are two objectives of the study that are: to find how the main characters show their existence; and to reveal why the main characters doing so in the plays. Descriptive qualitative is applied as research method, while existentialism as the main theory and positivism and rationalism as the supporting theory. This Study found out how the main characters oppose positivism and rationalism by being subjective. Each character has their own way in showing their existence. As the result, every character has their own purposes to be existence. The purposes of the main characters are their own eternal happiness. In “The Bear” Smirnov is being stubborn because he wants to show his power as a landowner, in “The Proposal”  Lomov is flaunting his wealth in order to propose Natalya, and Ivan is nagging to get sympathy from his friend.

Abstract

Writing is one of skill which is being basic skill in English learning. Writing is very important to be learned because it is being a compulsory in teaching English which the students have to be well mastered. There are many kinds of genres insert the teaching writing. One of them is writing descriptive. The teacher used flash game as media in teaching learning process in order to it could be motivated the students who lack motivations and minimize boredom faced. The purpose of the study was to know the implementation of teaching writing descriptive text by using flash game and the students’ responses toward teaching writing descriptive text using by using flash game to seventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surabaya. The researcher designs his research a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this study is seventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surabaya. To collect the data in this study, the researcher used four points to collect the data. They were the observation checklist, field notes, interview the teacher, and questionnaire as the technique. The implementation of flash game in teaching writing descriptive text was very effective to teaching writing descriptive text because it could be motivated and helped the students during teaching learning process. Students were not only being motivated and helped but also being participated actively during teaching learning process in the class. The result of students’ questionnaire was very good because most of students like very much with the implementation of flash game in teaching writing descriptive text. The researcher classified the questions into four factors. They were the first factor was about the students’ opinion about the material, it consisted into four questions. The second factor was about the students’ opinion about the teacher’s role during teaching writing descriptive text by using flash game, it consisted into two questions. The third factor was about the students’ opinion about the flash game, it consisted into three questions. The fourth factor was about the students’ opinion about general evaluation, it consisted into one question. That was way, the implementation of flash game in teaching writing descriptive text to seventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surabaya was very successful because it can reach the aim of teaching writing descriptive text in the class and also it makes the students being participate actively during teaching learning process.

Abstract

This study analyzed Robert Frost’s poems. There are three purpose of this study: analyze about figures of speech and theme death in Robert Frost’s poems. The writer was choosing Robert Frost’s because he developed a new style of poetry that was metrically precise but which sounded like ordinary American speech. His poetry was full of sentimental expressions about his personal life and conduct. Besides, his poems were simple and profound. He also wrote simple stories about everyday people, often inhabitants of rural New England. Robert Frost wrote extraordinary prose, using simple and direct language; his poems contain symbolism, hidden meanings, sounds, rhyme, meter, metaphors and more. The title of three poems were “Fire and Ice” , “In a Disused Graveyard” , “The Death of The Hired Man” that taken data from “Classic Poetry Series of Robert Frost Poems” publisher. The method used to analyzed the analysis data was Qualitative Method. This method was chosen because the object if this study does not treat object, and the object can only researched by an observation and description up to the writer’s point of view and match with theory. The result of the study shows that many of figures of speech were used on three of Robert Frost’s poems. They were Metaphor, Symbol, Hyperbole, Assonance, Anaphora, Personification, Paradox, Simile, Antithesis, Alliteration, Irony, Synecdoche and theme death could open the meaning poem as “Fire and Ice”, tells about the end of world between fire or ice. “In a Disused Graveyard”, tells about the people won’t to die. “The Death of The Hired Man” tells about the pity old man suddenly die in his employer’s home.

Abstract

This study was about phonological acquisition, especially on phonological process theory by David Ingram. It focused on the consonant word production by three two-year-old Indonesian children. The researchers applied qualitative research methods and the data were taken from the three Indonesian children’s speech in naturalistic conversation. Based on the data analysis and interpretation, the researchers found that not all of Ingram’s phonological processes occur in the subjects’ word production. There were nine from twelve processes. In addition, the researchers also found four other phonological processes which did not reflect Ingram’s theory and there were still several sounds which were not acquired yet by the subjects at the end of her research.
