Abstract

This research aimed to develop a local commodity potential based natural, scientific instrument called Hydraulic Carica (Hydrocar). It belonged to research and development studies. The instrument was developed through several stages: information acquisition, planning, development, validation and limited testing. It was validated by experts, practitioners and students during the limited testing stage. The product of research was a natural, scientific instrument based on local potential commodity in Wonosobo regency called Hydrocar (Hydraulic Carica). The instrument was developed according to the criteria with ”very good” scores on media, material and method aspects. Hydrocar is a suitable media for natural, sciences learning because it overcomes time and space limitation, improves students’ motivation and understanding and allows them to be more actively engaged in classroom. Keywords: Hydraulic Carica, Natural Scientific Instrument, Local Commodity Potential.

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) describe students’ creativity in modifying problem-solving based learning media, 2) develop a guide for students’ creativity in modifying problem-solving based learning media, and 3) assess the accuracy of usage of the guide for students’ creativity in modifying problem-solving based learning media. It employed a research and development method and a research design which was adapted from Borg and Gall’s model. The subject of research was a group of college students in semester VI academic calendar 2017/2018 who were taking micro-teaching courses in IKIP PGRI Pontianak. Data were collected using observation and questionnaires. The data were analysed using a series of interactive model analysis: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that: 1) a guide for students’ creativity in modifying problem-solving based learning media was well developed according to pre-planned stages; 2) the students’ creativity in modifying problem-solving based learning media were in “good” category; and 3) the usage of the guide for students’ creativity in modifying problem-solving based learning media was deemed appropriate as 60% students managed to modify their learning media. Keywords: guide, creativity, learning media, problem-solving

Abstract

Cilok is one of the traditional food in Indonesia. Cilok is a popular treat among Indonesians due to its good taste and cheap price. To make it last longer, cilok is sometimes added with preservative. However, such attempt will endanger consumers if dangerous preservatives are used, such as formaldehyde and borax. Their usage in food preservation may negatively impact consumers’ health. The aim of this research was to develop an alternative, natural preservative for fish cilok. The preservative would be chitosan. The method used is an experiment that is by making a chitosan solution from the shrimp skin waste. In the experiment, chitosan was extracted from shrimp waste. A 1,5% chitosan concentrate was used. Its preservation potency was tested by giving three treatments towards fish cilok: fish cilok with 1,5% chitosan coating; fish cilok mixed with 1,5% chitosan solution and fish cilok without chitosan. The three treatments were observed and an organoleptic test was performed according to the preservation time in a room temperature on Day 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The parameters tested during the experiment were taste, color, odor and texture of fish cilok. The research results showed that fish cilok coated with 1,5% chitosan solution lasted longer than fish cilok without or added with chitosan. Keywords: chitosan, natural preservative, fish cilok

Abstract

This article aims to describe the difference of student’s analytical ability after applying learning with the mindmapping method using the iMindmap application. The type of this research is pre-experiment with one group pretest posttest design method. The number of research samples is 15 students of Physics Education Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. The data collection technique was using pretest and posttest. The aspects measured in seeing the students' analytical ability are matching, classifying, error analysis, generalizing, and specifying. Data were analyzed using paired t-test. The results of the t-test analysis obtained the value t = -6,510 with sig (2-tailed) = 0,000 which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05. The conclusion is that there is a difference between the initial analytical ability and the final analytical ability of students after applying learning with the mindmapping method using the iMindmap application.   Keywords: mindmapping, iMindmap, analytical ability

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of scientific reasoning ability of junior high school students in Jambi. The type of this research is descriptive quantitative, while the research design using survey type cross-sectional design. The population in this study were junior high school students in Jambi City with a total of 25,789 students. The sampling technique used is cluster sampling. The sample used in this study is 1146 students from 15 schools with different accreditation levels. Techniques of data collection of this study are using the problem of reasoning abilities from lawson's classroom test of scientific reasoning (CTSR) in 2000. The results showed that 100% of the sample is concrete. With the ability of Conservation of matter and volume as the most ability owned by students with the percentage of 16.1% and the lowest ability is the ability of Proportional reasoning with a percentage of 3.0%. This shows that students have not been able to use their reasoning for abstract things. In general, no reasoning ability that has a percentage of 50% indicates that students' reasoning ability in junior high school is still very low and fundamental.  Keywords:  Profile, scientific reasoning, junior high school, Jambi city
