Abstract

Risks of women’s SRHR is increasing due to limited access to water and food in climate change policy. Women’s vulnerability is very high regarding the masculinity of climate-related policy—specifically the minimum representation and participation of women in decision-making. This problematical situation has mounted women’s burden with the changing pattern of climate since women are having difficulties in managing their livelihood. This study found that mainstreaming gender is not being implemented in climate-change related policy in Banyumas and Jepara. In many cases, women are being marginalized and the aims of development does not touch the SDG Post-2015.

Abstract

The study examine Gender Equality and Justice bill (RUU KKG) debate in the parliament and why it failed or being postponed by the House of Representatives in 2014. Are religious views play a significant role in rejecting the bill? Or is KKG bill loaded with Western ideology and interests? Why are political parties reluctant to fight for women’s equality ? These are the questions explored in this study. The study also shows the lack of understanding of the history of Indonesian women’s movement and culture in the parliament.

Abstract

This paper narrates indigenous women, land rights, indigenous forests and the status of women’s marginalization in the agrarian conflicts in Nusantara. Forests are not only as natural resource, but for indigenous peoples, they were seen as culture. Rivers and swamps are not only a source of food. These are also the culture of indigenous women. Rivers and swamps are source for indigenous women in teaching their children to survive in nature. Since the presence of monoculture plantations, mining, etc., then they lose their cosmology (logos on beauty). Not only that the beauty is lost, but also acute environmental pollution that affect birth of disable infants.

Abstract

Sang Hyang Dedari Dance in religious ceremonies is not only aimed vertically to Sang Hyang Widhi, but also bearing horizontal objectives, to sustain stable structure in Bali society. This study aims to describe the layers of the society, so it can be understood critically what is meant by women of Bali—that the multicultural discourse, indigenous women celebrate the customs and traditions as an act against the root of patriarchy. Yet there is always a need to reexamine the roots. Root is not absolute, and a single tone, but rhizomes that question the hegemony of the hierarchy in winning gender equality against patriarchal subordination.

Abstract

This writing discuss women’s body authority in Nengget Ceremony in Karo Land that attacked by the disaster of Sinabung Mountain eruption. The patriarkal construction in the traditional custom and culture as well the religion interpretation has become the tool which has contributed to legalize the woman’s oppression in Karo Regency. This writing will discuss how the patriarkal domination in the traditional marriage was built through traditional relation model which legitimated the concept of man absolute ownership over women’s property, status, role, and body. This writing will discuss the influence of the relation model of violence in family.

Abstract

This paper shows encounter of two traditions in marriages (Christianity-based and Batak Tradition-based), both are marginalizing women status. Church tradition and Toba Batak tradition are both patriacharl. They have different background contexts, but both subordinate women. The texts which is often used in liturgical marriage tradition describe women as those being led by men, thus led by God. In Toba Batak traditional marriages, a term called sinamot means as paying marriages. Many people say that sinamot is tuhor ni boru, literally means “woman-buying money.” Based on the roles of women and based on human rights of women, women are not dituhor, are not bought.

Abstract

Forced-marriage is a Madurese tradition that forces daughters to marry to men being chosen by the parent. Usually they are betrothed while still in the womb or as a child. Average age of girls being married are under 18 years old. Even in some cases they were being wed on their 12-15 age. The preservation of the tradition can be found in certain areas in Madura such as Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan and Sumenep. This tradition was formed because of customary law which merged with religious understanding of Madurese community about Islam, supported also by the economic conditions and low levels of education.

Abstract

Notion of “wani ing tata” basically is manifestation of noble conception to regard women having dignity in society. That actualization then explained in dual roles which operated in both areas; domestic and social engangement. The words “wanita” basically has been encountered in three social realms such as “wanodya” and “putri”. Those three concepts symbolized multifunctional roles that ascribed women as educator, nurse, and balancer. Javanese women leadership proved by prominent famous figure like Queen Shima, Tribhuana Tungga Dewi, and Suhita. In this case, its conception has ramified into both others notion; ardhaneswari and prameswari. Prameswari can be understood as main women; meanwhile ardhananeswari can be explained as tough and strong women. The emergence of patriarchal system into sociey reduced concept of “wani ing tata”. It puts women as inferior symbolized by “kasur”, “pupur’, and “sumur”.

Abstract

This paper is an analysis of Amina Wadud’s thinking about Islam and the status of women, especially regarding gender bias in the interpretation of the Alquran. Methodological problems in the interpretation of the Alquran has led gender issues that disadvantage women. Gender issues in the interpretation has made women subordinate, scapegoated, subordinated and oppressed. Thus, in order to achieve gender equality, Wadud dismantles gender bias in the interpretation of the Qur’an and reveal the darkness of the status of women. Furthermore, Wadud first interpretation offered by women, an interpretation which echoes the voice of women in the Qur’an.
