This research is about temporary marriage in the areas of Cisarua and Jakarta. The Islamic discourse in the Arabic culture views temporary marriage as positive to avoid promiscuity (zina). This research indicates that the practice of temporary marriage is manipulation of religion and degradation of Indonesian women. The dominance of Arabic culture in Cisarua influenced the subjectivity and sexuality of women in Indonesia. Respect for the identity of Indonesian women have faded because Indonesian cultural values are not upheld, overpowered by Arabic-patriachal culture and the fact that poverty is still an issue. Temporary marriage is basically prostitution legalized under the pretext of religion. Temporary marriage and siri marriage cannot be distinguished because both exploits the female body.

Indonesia urgently needs national women’s machinery, like ministry of women and commission for women. Beijing Platform for Action had been adopted by the fourth conferenc of women in September 1995 giving specific attention to national women’s machinery in implementing gender mainstreaming at all levels in national development. Genealogy and history of queens in Nusantara had been written in golden ink. Their histories across Nusantara were not only an accumulation of wives or ruler, but also inhibited the magic-realism of modern Indonesian society. However, the minimum or rare documents of Nusantara’s women leadership had blurred their real representation and strong leadership. This paper investigates the history, roles, status and profiles of women’s leader. This paper aims to support current political situation specifically on the tradition of writing woman’s her-stories. From this perspective legitimacy of power from history are taken to support women’s leadership in current modern Indonesia state.

Media representations of women who have positions as ministers in President Joko Widodo’s Kabinet Kerja become phenomenon. On one side, media exposes aspects of successful side of female ministers. Media cited the statement of Presiden Jokowi that there are two “first woman” as appreciation. But, on the other side, media representations have masculinity character. For female minister who has “unique body performance”, the exposure of media are so excessive. Media had been trapped in the calculation of news values as reference for gathering news. The news values have been controlled by masculinity discourse that legitimate patriarchal regime of truth.

This paper shows that the role and position of Indonesian women in local governance are improving gradually since the implementation of direct elections in 2005. The “structural opportuinities” for women to be elected as local leader have increased under the direct elections. The number of women elected as local leaders has risen significantly during 2005-2014 periods. Female local leaders’ profiles are diverse in terms of their socio-political background, individual capital and political parties, reflecting a new typology of female local leaders. The presence of female local leaders does not necessarily mean that they always advocate for women issues in their policy line, as this ideal condition depends on other influential factors. And yet, this paper suggests the declining trend of participation and opportunities of women in local governance as the new Local Government Act No. 23/2014 adopts the election of local government head via the Regional People’s Representative Council to replace the earlier mechanism of direct election.
