Abstract

Abstract

Tempe is an Indonesia traditional food, which in the manufacturers have a liquid waste that no use again namely soybean soaking water. Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) has been known at every stage of tempeh production, included at soaking soybeans. This study aimed to isolate and characterize LAB contained in soybean soaking water liquid waste. After serial dilution to 10-7, soybean soaking water liquid waste was inoculated on the MRSA contained 1% CaCO3. After incubation, there are 8 isolates which produce clear zone around their colonies with different colony morphology suspected as LAB. Morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics were employed to identify LAB. All isolates were non-spore forming, non-motile, catalase negative, grow well at 37° and 45°C, could be able to grow in the presence of 4% and 6.5% sodium chloride. The results of safety test showed all isolates negative for hemolytic activity. Seven of eight isolates are Gram-positive, while one is a Gram-negative. But only Gram-positive were chosen as they represent the LAB characteristic. Seven isolates were identified as Lactobacillus with heterofermentative as the type fermentation. In this study, Lactobacillus casei ATCC 393 used as reference strain

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disorder of carbohydrate metabolism (glucose) in the body and its prevalence is getting higher. Until 2015, 10 million cases of DM found in Indonesia and allegedly ever increasing. Type II DM is the most common types of DM in the world and its characterized by insulin resistance and β cell damage.  Due to the serious side effects caused when taking chemical antidabetes drugs, herbal medicine searches from natural materials continue to be done. Various spesieces of cinnamon plants have been studied and known to have antidiabetic activity. One of them is Cinnamomum burmanii which is found in Indonesia. Among the spesieces of cinnamon have the same health benefits including antidiabetes, antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiviral, antioxidant, antitumor etc. Although the antidiabetic mechanism of cinnamon is still debated, it is thought that cinnamon affects several insulin signaling pathways, among others, in insulin receptors, glucose transporter 4 (GLUT 4), glucose transporter-1 (GLUT 1), peroxisome proliferator activator receptor (PPAR), α activity glucosidase etc. This activity is caused of the bioactive compounds it contains. The main compounds that have hypoglycemic activity are Methylhidroxy Calcone Polymer (MHCP), sinamaldehyde, and polymer pro-ayanine type-A polymers or proanthocyanidin.

Abstract

The Anting-anting (Acalypha indica L.) plant of the tribal Euphorbiaceae is one type of plant commonly used as a medicinal plant. The Purpose of This study is to get the morphology data, anatomy, organoleptic, physical determination of powders, powder ekstrabilitas determination, identification of chemical reactions and thin layer chromatography of Anting-anting (Acalypha indica L.) plant. Extraction of Anting-anting (Acalypha indica L.) leaf is using 96% ethanol by maceration method. Longitudinal slices showed stomata leaf anatomy anisositik type. Fisic desition include 16,36 % decision of dust level 5,16% decision of unsoluble dust in acid level. Decision of cansentrate level that include 25,16% consentrate level of water soluble and 26,36% consentrate level of etanol soluble. The results of this study concluded thet the leaf powder Anting-anting (Acalypha indica L.) is positive for flavanoid, alkaloid, steroid, saponin and aleuron.

Abstract

A research had been done on antibacterial activity of extract and the aim was to determine the antibacterial activity and inhibitory potency. The research was started by screening test using Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Shigella dysenteriae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Vibrio cholerae. Results showed that the Agaricus bisporus ekstract inhibited Bacillus subtilis, Shigella dysenteriae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Vibrio cholera at concentrations 0,1% and 1%. The results obtained Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) Agaricus bisporus extract against at concentrations of 0,1%. In the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) test Agaricus bisporus extract against at concentrations of 0,8%. Agaricus bisporus extract has antibacterial activity wich was indicated by the inhibitory zone diameter. The biggest inhibitory zone diameter of Agaricus bisporus contained in bacteria Bacillus subtilis on the concentration of 6.4% (13 mm)
