Abstract

Sea urchins of different colors were collected 50 individuals each and measured their morphological characters. The data were then transformed to natural logarithm and analyzed using regression. The comparison of the regression line intercept for the shell diameter-height relationship did not show any difference, but there was a significant difference for the shell lenght-heigth relationship. The comparison between different colors exhibited variations in the shell morphology of each sea urchin population. The growth of black spined-sea urchin (Echinometra mathaei), was negative allometric; the fact that they were mostly found in the narrow crevices might have influenced their growth.

Abstract

The district of Komo Luar is one of the downstream areas of River Tondano. Based on some researches, performance of physic-chemical parameters show under of Indonesian Water Quality Guidelines e.g. dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, and e. colii. Knowledge and Technology Transferring has chosen in order to implement the soft approaches. Some programme has been done for example, training related to water quality and awareness campaign. We expected this programme could be modify the way of thinking of people around the river.

Abstract

A study on spatial evaluation of mangrove resource was carried out in Pohuwato Regency, the province of Gorontalo, for 3 months. The mangrove resources in this area have been exploited to build ponds, houses and for firewood. As the result, there was a significant decrease in mangrove population. In this study, main data were gathered from Landsat TM Satellite Image 2000-2001 and 2009-2010, and others data collected from the field and interviews with local villagers. Aproximately 60 sampling points were observed and examined. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was applied to determine the extent of mangroves and its changes. In 2000-2001, the mangrove area was about 7,007.67 Ha, and reduced to 3,034.53 Ha in 2009-2010.

Abstract

Information on water conditions, such as sedimentation, physical factors, and coral reef ecosystem, needs to be understood that the stakeholders could optimally utilize the the area. This study was aimed at determining the sediment content of Buyat Bay and its surroundings dissolved and undissolved in the acid solution. Results found that the terrestrial sediments (Lithogenous) were not soluble in the acid solution and the marine ones (Biogenous) were soluble.

Abstract

Dengue haemorrhagie fever is one of the disease which caused by dengue virus. It spreads out by mosquito Aedes aegypti as the vector. To date, people use abate as the larvacidal.  Yet it causes the negative effects, such as bad odor, rustiness of the water container and resistency either to the larvae or to the living environment if continue using it. The objective of the research was to examine the larvacidal activity of Didemnum molle extract against A. aegypti larvae. The sample was extracted with methanol to give methanolic extract which was further partitioned with ethyl acetate, hexane, and chloroform to yield three fractions of ethyl acetate, hexane, and chloroform. Methanolic extract and the three fractions were tested against the A. aegypti larvae instar III for several concentrations. Abate and tap water were used as controls. The result exhibited that Didemnum molle extracts contain or produce larvacidae substances against A. aegypti larvae. They are approved by the data of methanolic extract and the 3 fractions which are more powerful than abate, particularly hexane. However it still needs to be purified to obtain single active compound.

Abstract

Coastal resources and space in the coastal around Gangga island, has been used for fishing activities and marine tourism. The purpose of this study to map the profile of bottom waters and to identify patterns sublitoral basic surface waters. The survey was conducted by using the acoustic method of sounding, followed by sediment sampling as well as shooting on the surface of the bottom waters. The result of observation indicates that the basic conditions of slope waters around the island of Ganga slope varies from flat to very steep slopes. Waters of the western Gangga island smaller flat slope found in coastal landform ranging from mangroves, coral reefs and seagrass. Bottom waters to the east of Gangga island to steep slope, with the basic pattern dominated by coral reefs and sand.

Abstract

The result showed that the median of the lethal concentration (LC-50) of dichloromethane insecticides on nener milkfish (Chanos chanos Forsk) for 12 hours and 24 hours are 0.786 ppm, and 0.287 ppm, respectively. The increasing tendency of the time there is less lethalconcentration values, whereas the higher concentration, then the sooner the death of test organisms.

Abstract

Effect of K+ concentration on growth rate, feed efficiency, potassium whole body, and osmoregulatory capacity of L. vannamei postlarvae Boone, 1931 were investigated. Treatments consisted of different concentration of K+ added to distilled water. Four treatments were set, namely A, B, C and D, where K2CO3 levels were 0, 30, 60 and 90 ppm, respectively. After the 42-days feeding trial, growth rate and potassium whole body of the shrimp under treatment D (90 ppm K2CO3) were significantly higher, while the value of osmoregulatory capacity in treatment A (0 ppm K2CO3) significantly higher than those under the other four treatments. The results indicated treatment C (60 ppm K2CO3) were the optimum K+ level for growth rate with increasing body size.
